Advice on roasted maple neck

Northern Ash is the heavy brother to the swamp ash. They must be sneaking in some northern pieces.

Getting a bit off the original topic but there is no "Swamp Ash" species. It is simply ash that is grown in wetter and perhaps a bit warmer areas. The trees grow faster and thus the wood is a bit softer and lighter. Most of it has been harvested. With the emerald ash borer problems there is going to be less and less ash available.

Just a follow up after light sanding 0000 ,I just applied the first coat of tru oil.... with my fingers and rubbed it on. It looks great!!


Can I stop at one coat??

If you want TruOil (and it’s a good product) it’s more a sporting goods store thing. It’s sold as a gunstock finish. I think Big5 might have it. Walmart used to have it in the sporting goods section, around here anyway. Woodcraft, if there’s one nearby, might stock it as well.

@/\/\3phist0 I really enjoyed your post on the chambered pj bass , are you digging those blade pickups???

.... mine are lollar blade style jazz pickups (originally i had emg). I also installed a lusithand lo pass filter preamp instead of a tone knob, for some "wall-ish" sounds on the fretless.
