Oooh, that's a very nice Sterling! I recently sold my SBMM SB14 (VERY nice, long-discontinued import version of the Sterling H) in favor of a Squier VM P5 but I really dug it while I had it. And I'm happy to hear that you were considering the L-2000 Tribute (my main 5'er is a L-2500 Tribute). Congrats!

I did pick up both M-2000 and and L-2000 Tributes used...

I've been in the same spot before. It will probably feel weird for a while but after you've been at it for a little bit it should start to feel natural. At least that's what happened in my case. I'm to the point where I can play a Jazz-width 4 and switch to a 5'er without thinking much about it.

I feel your pain. I also have an aversion to the wider neck after years of playing a jazz sized neck.
I've started playing Sandbergs, and I love them. The nut is slightly wider than a jazz, but narrower than a P; really right in between, and I really didn't even notice the difference. They are also fully configurable; if you're a maple guy, or block inlay guy, or a gold hardware guy.... or whatever. You can even get a 35" scale (which is what I play). The preamps rule and its fully active-passive switchable. I love the zero fret, I think it helps a little sustaining the low notes and allows perfect action at the "nut". The California VM2 has the dual humbucker config you are looking for. Id check one out man. I love them.
