Double Bass Aebersold Summer Jazz Camp

I confirmed with Jason that the meal plan will be at the University Club again this year, as it was last year. I asked Jason if we could pay ala carte at the Ville Grill and he wrote back that he's not allowed to say that because the Grill gives first priority to the groups that contract with them. I think that means, yes, but no guarantee. Not sure what I'll do about the meal plan. I'm not too picky, but I found myself dreading the food at the U-Club.

Not very inconvenient. There's a burger, Chinese, sandwich, and pizza places a block away. Nothing special but probably adequate if you're not picky.

The Chinese place has a "secret" Thai menu that is excellent. They will also make anything on the menu without anything (onions, MSG etc.) you don't like in it.

Yeah, my wife is from Hong Kong, and she liked the Chinese place. I think she ate there twice a day and just skipped breakfast.

Hi all,

I'll be there next week as well. SO looking forward to it!

I'm travelling from Canada, so will be relying on the rental upright and amplifier. As a reasonably adept bass luthier (I just finished my second Oberlin bass repair workshop), I plan to bring along some bass set-up tools and accessories. Stuff that will allow some modest tweaking, like soundpost adjusters, files, broken in strings, and assorted pickups. If others are struggling with their bass's adjustment, I'd be happy to try and help out!

Paul, since you offered, I'm probably going to bug you about looking at my loaner. I'm bringing some strings for it. The strings I had on one of them last year were wild.

Matt - and anyone else using a loaner bass - bringing an extra set of strings is a great idea. I went through my stash, and unfortunately I only have two sets that might be useful (not too worn out, and not too new). I will bring my electric string winder, which saves a ton of time when changing strings.

John - good advice re customs. One of my sound post devices looks pretty harmless, while the other kind of looks "weapons grade"!
