Okay a few answers:

1) price range = certainly less than $1k
2) purpose = to have something that sounds and performs different and does something different than my regular basses
3) saving my money = fortunately i have enough in the budget to allocate to spector 3 and also something cheap and fun and different

If you really want to try something different perhaps pick up a synth keyboard. they are available at a wide variety of price points, would present a new challenge, are very helpful with learning music theory and would make you much more marketable as a musician.

So, I'm saving for another Spector, but I'm wondering what fun basses might be out there in a reasonable price range that would add something different to my arsenal.

I have a Two Precisions (one rounds, one flats), a Jazz, a Spector with the classic EMG/Haz-style preamp, and another Spector with a passive P.

The Orange O-Bass looks cool, but might be close to my Precisions?

Any ideas?

A couple of months ago I picked up a CAR Squier Rascal for $299 and free shipping. It's a little quirky, plays great, sounds great (and unique), wonderful fit and finish, plus it looks very cool IMHO. Probably not a stage player (9 lbs after adding Hipshot ultralights) but for that price it's a nice collectors piece and fun couch buddy! Highly Recommended!

The squier rascal is oddball. It’s my go to, but it plays different than standard. The string spacing is narrow and it’s 30” scale but the bridge is in the middle of the body so it is overall as long as a standard and the reach to first fret is the same. I like it because it’s more substantial than the tiny bodies on most short scales and it just sits better for me.

Looks like you got a lot of territory covered with what you have. Maybe a hollow body? Maybe a short scale. A friend of mine just got a Cort GB short scale. Great sounding little bass that's fun to play.

Hollow-body and/or fretless. Many options out there for both.

I was gonna suggest either some kind of less-expensive Stingray variant, H or HH would vary depending on the player's taste, or a Fender Dimension. I have a friend who gigs quite a lot with the latter. Despite her considerable and varied collection, she keeps going back to her MIA Deluxe Dimension IV for almost all of her low-end needs.

Side note; having heard her play it a number of times, I can attest that Dimensions are not Stingray knock-offs, no matter the caterwauling of the knee-jerk, reactionary naysayers. They are very much their own beast.
