I think all pop music should've just ended forever lol, it's all over! If Aliens came down then they'd be like "this is the epitome of human music achievement. We saw the future of soft rock, disco, hair bands and grunge. While there's some good stuff there this exemplifies all of human blues soul and awesomeness!"

Yep. 17 years of age when that was released. My dad died July of '75 and we moved from Idaho back to CA. I lived and breathed that album, as did all my other friends. Of course, my friends and I learned "Penny for your Thoughts" and we'd try and all play it together. Got pretty good at it, lol. Oops! That was on the acoustic G****r. I better keep quiet about that here on this forum. Seriously, though, it was and still is one of my life "soundtracks", lol!!
I even had an Irish Setter named "Frampton"!

First song I thought of was from 1977:

Topped out at 44; but I am glad I didn't miss it.

Second song I thought of was from 1980:

Topped out at 67; but I am glad I didn't miss it.

I am sure I could think of a lot more songs I am glad I didn't miss.

Yep, Comes Alive was something, but it was in very good company. The thing about music is there is no do all end all. There is groundbreaking sound, been there done that sound, and what were they thinking sound, but what has never existed is one ring to rule them all; and I for one am eternally grateful. :smug:

No doubt this is one of those albums that EVERYONE owned and played until the grooves wore out! :thumbsup:

Not in my experience. Class of '77 - admittedly we were a minority, but there was a very vocal "Frampton it too poppy, sellout" crowd. Had the goods, just couldn't deliver anything "heavy", just all this ucky emotional entanglement relationship stuff lol....

Edit: just to belabor the point, this crowd included folks who had been Humble Pie fans, many of whom found FCA too "soft" and crassly commercial.

I used to be a huge fan of that album. Just recently, I bought a copy on CD (lost all of my vinyl in the great divorce of 2000) and listened to it. I have to admit it was not as good as I remembered it. His hits were fun to listen to, Baby I Love Your Way, Show Me The Way, Do You Feel Like We Do, but the rest of the album didn't stand up well to the ravages of time.

I never owned the album, but what was the huge hit from it? Some super sappy “I’m In You” or something…

I guess that was not on that album. I HATED that song! About 5 or so years later I couldn’t believe it was the same guy who did “Do You Feel Like We Do”. And I love “Baby I Love Your Way”.

But “I’m In You”, yuck. What a dog.

Every day of my life new and better music has been created. If I had to choose between music only released in 2025 or music released before 2020 I’d pick the new stuff. I’ve heard the old stuff so I can make that comparison for myself.
I happen to love Frampton and have seen him perform. But music is a moving target and only improves as we go forward.
Free to disagree. Not knocking the old stuff, just embracing the new.

I didn’t at first, but it wore kind of thin for me after a while. But still, Peter has a pop/rock voice, not a full blown rock voice, and hearing him sing “I Don’t Need No Doctor” would have been out of his style. I do think, though, that Steve Marriott could have pulled off Frampton’s songs. Dude could sing anything.
