I think the shared experience of AOR radio left us older folks with a time travel portal.

There are songs or albums and the summer you heard it everywhere. Whether you wanted to or not.

Once the radio stations put it on heavy rotation, it was gonna be driven deep into your skull.

What were you doing the summer the Stones' Some Girls was inescapable?

I agree with many of these takes - the album doesn't hold up for me as much these days. I won't turn it off if a song comes on, but I find he is still one of my favorite guitarists

That was a big album, no doubt. It got played a little TOO much IMO.
The following year saw two amazing debut albums - Heart's first and Boston's first. The latter got to be pretty cliche and dated, but when it came out I thought it was a hell of a way for a band to start out.

I can always spot Pete a mile away, a different feel and phrasing than most of his English peers ( really obvious on ROCKIN THE FILLMORE alongside Marriot). He caught lightning in a bottle with ALIVE as few have, and I liked it then and now. Maybe not as 'heavy' as some would like, but very musical.

For this old man, the majority of the music that i loved the most was born in the 60s and 70s.

His hits were fun to listen to, Baby I Love Your Way, Show Me The Way, Do You Feel Like We Do, but the rest of the album didn't stand up well to the ravages of time.

To this day, I've never listened to the whole album; I'm only familiar with the above-mentioned hits. I liked those hits a lot, and still do. They are a big part of my high school soundtrack.

I never owned the album, but what was the huge hit from it? Some super sappy "I'm In You" or something…

I guess that was not on that album. I HATED that song! About 5 or so years later I couldn't believe it was the same guy who did "Do You Feel Like We Do". And I love "Baby I Love Your Way".

But "I'm In You", yuck. What a dog.

I think all pop music should've just ended forever lol, it's all over! If Aliens came down then they'd be like "this is the epitome of human music achievement. We saw the future of soft rock, disco, hair bands and grunge. While there's some good stuff there this exemplifies all of human blues soul and awesomeness!"

February, 1975 - 50 years ago this month - local radio station KZEW did a live Peter Frampton & band broadcast in partnership with local recording studio January Sound. I tuned in because I was a fan of his guitar playing with Humble Pie on Rockin' The Fillmore.

Give it a listen - It's got material released a month later on his studio album, and almost a full year later on the live one. I love the session's raw honesty in both execution and mix - It's like you're up front in a small club with them.

First Band I played in worked in a few of these Cheap trick tunes. Admittedly, at my current age, they could be considered pretty cringeworthy to play. Later on, I was able to play some of the Frampton tunes... loved them.

Yeah, no. Never liked it, never owned it, never played it. And according to my roommate (who worked stage crew at one of the largest venues in the DMV, and interacted with him directly), post FCA he was not as nice a fellow as depicted in a previous post. Kinda got all prima donna, complaining about food backstage and stuff. Humble Pie Live was his zenith musically, if not financially, IMO. His guitar work is great on that album. He did make it acceptable to wear tennis shoes with a tux, though, so there's that... I'm off to listen to the live version of "Hallelujah".

I still get to play "I Want You To Want Me" on a regular. Great tune! Used to play "California Man" and would again in a heartbeat (even though it's originally a Move tune). And "Surrender" was a fun tune to play as well. Kinda nutty!

When Comes Alive and Rumours came out and sold tens of millions of copies, it made the entire music industry look up and go "oh, ok... we can make A LOT more money here than previously thought". Sure, there were multi platinum acts prior, but these two records were so enormously huge that it changed things

I didn't at first, but it wore kind of thin for me after a while. But still, Peter has a pop/rock voice, not a full blown rock voice, and hearing him sing "I Don't Need No Doctor" would have been out of his style. I do think, though, that Steve Marriott could have pulled off Frampton's songs. Dude could sing anything.

Full strength Humble Pie with Frampton aboard was a cut above a lot of rock at that time, and Peter was not your standard Blues based rock guitar god of the time either. The power of Humble Pie's live Fillmore album squashes Frampton Comes Alive in my opinion.
