After much agonizing... NAD!

I mean, cool setup and all, but I think it's kind of silly that you spent a bunch of money on pickups and wanted a "neutral" amp, but then you run everything through a cheap digital guitar multi-effects unit. If you are spending K12 kind of money, you might as well at least get one of those cheap dbx tube mic pre's or something to feed the QSC.

I'm a walking contradiction.

but seriously, I barely use the pre's in the boss for bass. mostly for effects.
I don't consider the boss a "cheap digital guitar multi-effects unit". it's pretty darned powerful.

good point about the mic pre, however, I bet an Avalon (!!!) would work right nicely.

to emphasize: I ran the bass STRAIGHT without the gt-100 and it blew me away. I don't HAVE to use the gt-100. but I like the effects chain logic and it's pretty danged clean.

I like the idea of this. When I'm onstage pretty much the only thing I like to hear is my bass, the drums and vocals. The drums are usually fine acoustically. I dislike in-ears. If incod have a nice monitor in front of me serving as a bass amp without overwhelming the stage mix, that would be perfect.

Nice rig!

I've tried it and didnt think it would be adequate for anything but a small gig, but it works well as a monitor. Add a qsc powered sub and you're good to go for about anything. I'd just be worried about the larger or outdoor gigs with no foh support using the K12 on its own.

i completely agree. this post wasn't meant to imply it's an end-all solution for all situations.
neither would most any of the class D amps with a 1x12 cab.

and, uh, i doubt my type of music will be played for very large crowds anyway.

as MrLenny1 mentioned, the K Sub is a killer 1,000 watt 2x12 sub in the same product line that would be phenom alone or added to the K12!

what would add some serious POOP as well would be a second K12 acoustically coupled to the first.

another nice thing about the Boss GT-001:
stereo outs in a small package!

My semi-acoustic group goes direct to the board and into either JBL PRX612s or PRX715s. I use an MXR M81 Bass Preamp and get excellent sound through the PA. Think about it - if you play a full-range recording through those cabs, there's plenty of bass. The key is not to overdo it on the bottom end.

I remember when I got my Avalon U5, I plugged it in to one of my Mackie SR1530 PA columns and was blown away by the sound.

HOWEVER ... bass cabs are designed to handle bass frequencies at higher SPLs than most PA enclosures, and offer considerably more headroom down low. As long as you don't have high volume requirements, the PA cabs can sound very nice.

"there's an animal in Maurice's pants!"

Timberland comics, National Lampoon Magazine, circa 1978
Hey Fred, I may be the only person who remembers that besides you! It happened when the little Indian boy Maurice inadvertently caught a glimpse of Kathleen in the shower. He jumped back against the wall as something started growing in his trousers. He exclaimed, "Yike! Some kind animal in Maurice pants!" The same thing happened one night when he had a dream about Brooke Shields.

Remember his dog Foamy?

Hey Munji!

looong time old TB mate!

that is tooo funny about Maurice. I really didn't think ANYone would know that ref.

i looked it up. the exact talk balloon quote:

"'Alp! Some kind animal in Maurice's pants!"

that Kathleen was a hot little number. i think there's some animal action in MY pants remembering it.

and Foamy, and Tom... and it was TIMBERLAND TALES (i got that wrong too).

great stuff back in the day. there were a lot of things about the '70's that were deliciously degen no one knows about.
lost in time.

good to hear from you bud! you total hyper-elite member.

you only have 4 days on me here young man, i'm on yer heels.
