Might want to check with your physician or pharmacist for potential drug interactions with CBD first if you’re taking Rx meds like most of us our age are.

My dad has been using a UV lamp to elevate his arthritis pain and it seems to work for him, maybe I can recommend thisOkay, I am 62 and I just recently starting experiencing pain in both of my thumb joints which I suspect is arthritis. What do some of you well seasoned bassists do to alleviate the pain in your hands due to age?
At least I can still play for now. Okay, I am 62 and I just recently starting experiencing pain in both of my thumb joints which I suspect is arthritis. What do some of you well seasoned bassists do to alleviate the pain in your hands due to age?
I noticed that playing fretless basses is much easier on my left hand than fretted basses. It's slinkier and more fluid. FYI, I don't play a lot of "mwah" stuff. In fact, there's not a significant difference in my sound from fretted to fretless, but the fretless just feels so much more efficient to me- I feel like i'll get more mileage out of my hands if keep playing fretless.

about 10 years ago my hands and wrists started to fail until finally I couldn’t play at all. After 3 min of pain I would have to stop. Another TB Member suggested a list of supplements he had great success with. After 6 to 8 months (it took a while for them to take affect) I was able to play without pain up to 3 hours. YMMV.Okay, I am 62 and I just recently starting experiencing pain in both of my thumb joints which I suspect is arthritis. I'm now 51 and I have some hand pain these days from injuries to my wrists when I was 13 that took a while to heal even with the advantage of youth. Until about 2 years ago I was playing 3 hour gigs several times a month BUT I did pre-medicate with ibuprofen and CBD topicals.
Here's my big list for dealing with hand pain now.
prevention:
1. I'm selling my basses with more than 4 strings or with skinny necks.
1a. lighten up your strings. Thomastik/LaBella provide good options.
2. try to avoid sugar and dairy if you can.
3. try to avoid alcohol.
4. get enough sleep.
5. orthopedic brace
treatment:
1. Topical CBD's
2. oral CBD's
3. topical NSAID's (voltaren gel)
4. NSAID's - ibuprofen/naproxen/etc
5. compression wraps - I particularly like the self adhesive ace style bandages at HEB. If you do not have an HEB....you are missing out. Try CVS/Walgreens
You may want to see a rheumatologist. Your GP is probably only useful in providing a referral for this sort of thing. An occupational therapist might be able to provide some help as well.
as always YMMV
Got the info out of a book. one of many herbalistic holistic books I have. I have a whole shelf in my book case of nothing but that type of book.Interesting. My Dr told me the exact opposite. Where did you get this info from?
