Aging pickguard edges

Any ideas for aging the white edges of this pickguard? I don't want to affect the tort portion.

Depending on how "aged", take the guard off and rub the edges with tea, coffee, or a little dirt. Wipe off.

Brown liquid shoe polish. I use the Kiwi brand with the foam applicator for this. You can find it in any grocery store.

It will. I rub it on liberally with the foam applicator, let it sit for a minute, then wipe off the excess. It may rub off with wear from play, but if that happens, all you have to do is re-apply.

I didn't have much luck getting it to take on a cheap Amazon pickguard. Just wiped right off no matter how long I let it sit. Scuffing/scanding it a bit seemed to help some but it never looked aged TBH.

It depends on how long you leave it on to discolor it. You'll have to check periodically. I've also aged parts in coffee overnight, and also used old dirty car grease to age edges. It'll eventually get stained.

Thanks for all the replies. The Spitfire PG is really nice, but the bright white edges just stand out. I'm sure I can get it looking better. I have some brown Stewmac die I might try.

You can order a nice tort guard with a creme colored middle.

Ash a cigarette on it a couple times then rub around the bevel. This is what I do, and I dont really smoke. Folks ask why I keep a pack of cowboy killers in my tool box lol.

I’ve soaked white Fender parts in tea to even them with the rest of the aged plastics. Household tea might be less aggressive than coffee.

On my Spitfire, I bit the bullet and sent it back to have Mark do it.
For what it cost, I wasn't going to risk messing it up. A bit more $ at that point really didn't matter.

it seems you need a clear coat so I'd say use Cigarettes or tea or coffee grinded up and mix to tint the clear coat.. then use the foam brush on the edge.. or just hold it next to a hot fire.. heat or sun yellow stuff.. no direct heat.. lol

you need to go at the edges with one of those green scotch brite scourers so as to apply a subtle rough surface that acts as a key for the tanning solution to take a hold ..otherwise it will likely just rub off eventually.
