Aging pickguard edges

Different plastics take different stains/dyes to different degrees. The most effective in my experience is spirit based wood dyes (the water based stuff never lasts/comes off when wiped or cleaned - or contact areas when played). Agree that it works better with roughed up surface vs smooth/polished.

If you don't like it, you can take it off with alcohol.

You can get a 3 pack of furniture touch up markers, the kind you can get at the dollar store. I use the lighest one. Works perfect.

Just did this one today. The second pic is with the shoe polish. It may take a couple passes to get the degree of darkness that you want, but you can definitely see a difference.

Yeah, I just ran some 0000 steel wool over the edges since it’s what I had on hand. But sandpaper or Scotch-Brite would be fine, too.

Light sanding the area you wanna apply colour with 600 grit sand paper. Then apply several layer of turmeric(mix water) with wool. Once done, leave it 24 hours. Clean the turmeric coat with water and check the results. If too yellow for your taste, try several rub with Scott bright scrub pad until satisfied results.

You could try this stuff. Lightly sand the edges first to de-glaze the plastic, apply with provided cotton dauber.

Came here to say 'turmeric'. That stuff is tenacious. I used to be a line cook - once stains your bowls, it's there forever
