What was fender using on their strats in the 80's? My roommate has a early 80's strat that has a whole lot of weather cracking and is starting to get that vintage look.

For the record.... That is a "real" oldie not a "relic" job. That's 40 plus years of legitimate playing wear.

I think a Relic'ed look should be earned, not bought.

I have a friend who does a relic'ed look really well, probably due to having had so many vintage fenders pass through his shop or that he has owned. they always look real, right down to wearing on the back of the neck and whatnot.

Check out this 2003 Highway 1 bass. The seller buffed the finish for a glossier look than stock and upgraded the bridge to a BadAss.

I've heard the Highway 1 series finishes -- even before they upgraded to nitro -- do wear rather quickly because they're so thin.
