Agressive fingerstyle players?

i'm surprised no one has done this.......

ME...

i play hard finger style bass.

Our drummer tried onece and had to stop after one song.....

the guitarist wants me to play harder but alas hasn't attempted to play my bass and lines.....wimp. He does the tap on stuff on his guitar and wants me to do the same on the bass.....ehhh...the strings are bigger and harder to move/hold down. Surprisingly he used a pick to get about 3/4 the aggression i get with the old digits.

One thing that is important though, do some warmups first or RSI will come a visiting.

Ryan plays with his fingers, but he also has his own "finger slapping" tech.

I have the Mudvaye, "All access to all things" DVD and it seems that he is actually grabbing the strings with say his thumb and index finger and doing it very fast making a slap/clickety sound I guess??? Is anyone seing that. I can't get it to go slow enough or freeze the frame clear enough to see.

He's been my biggest influence. Im amazed at how much he digs in even on faster songs like "Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart."

Thats what I do when Im playing a really driving section with a triplet feel.

I saw Tiger Army at Warped Tour and was very surprised. Very crazy antics, but I coulda sworn that was a synched show. Becasue some of his lines didn't match the sound, and the drummer seemed to be playing beats I didn't hear.

Hmmm...so are just the tips of his fingers hitting the strings? I guess that would explain the clickety sound he gets...not as much as Feildy though...more wooden..ala Warwick I would suppose.

Then you have to look no further than Chuck Dukowski from BLACK FLAG...now that guy freakin ROCKS on the punk bass!

ERIC LANGLOIS!!! psycho aggressive fingerstyle bassist from Cryptopsy, really surprised no-ones mentioned him, he plays with 4 fingers and does slaps and pops. And on top of his amazing playing, he can swirl his hair around like a freakin helicopter all crazy like at the same time without missing a beat.

Eric Langlois, I like Cryptopsy, i have None So Vile, good stuff, but I don't know if Langlois is the type of guy I'm looking for. Sure he can do some cool fills from time to time but throughout most of the song itself i can barely hear the guy.

Chuck Dukowski, did he play on Damaged? That's a great album but it's not too agressive bassline-wise.

And I wouldn't consider John Myung an agressive bassist, at least tone wise if not playing style wise, though I do enjoy his stuff from time to time.

If you ever have the chance to see Nonpoint live, their bassist, KB, is a freaking monster. He beats the hell out of his bass, but he's still really fast and technical. He definitely inspired me. His playing doesn't really come across on recordings, but live is a totally different story.

And Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne is perhaps the most 'technically agressive' hardcore player out there now. All fingerstyle with some metal slapping thrown in.
