Aguilar DB112 repair/speaker replacement

Tonight at practice I had a horrible rattling noise in one of my db112s. I briefly looked inside the ports to see if I could see any see anything off, but couldn't get a good look. I went to check the speaker from the front which brings me to my first question: what's the best way to get the grill off without damaging the piping? And #2: If it turns out to be the speaker, what's the best replacement out there?

I was able to very slowly and carefully get the grill off using a flat head screwdriver. That Velcro can be tough so be patient. I had to have one speaker repaired once. Some glue had come undone so it was an easy fix. Aggy sells their 12 speakers and aren't too expensive. If you replace, I'd recommend that Aggy speaker to assure you get the right sound. Other speakers may work but the tone will be different in some measure.

Yep, that grill is a toughy to remove. Unscrew the metal corners firt and carefully pry it out with a flathead screw driver or butter knife.

As for replacement, your best bet is an original Aguilar 12.

I had an issue with one of my DB112, the speaker screws loosened, had to remove the grill, first you'll have to remove the silver corners, then gently pry the grill frame off with a wide putty knife or a flat screwdriver, be careful ,as you don't want to damage the cabinet, the velcro doesn't give very easy

So I know that this is an older post, but I just wanted to add- On the SL-112 cabinets it is not necessary to remove the silver corners or the rubber feet. It seems best to begin in the lower corner by the plate. I used a flat screw driver and a jewelers knife, the one used to pry the backs off of watches. I think that the putty knife would do just fine. After I replace the diaphragm I am going to attach a thin, but firm ribbon to aide with futures removals. And by the way get some Liquid silver paint from the crafts shop and touch up the silver piping. Be sure to tape it up.

Sometimes you can get it started by unscrewing one of the screws from the logo. Just enough to firmly grab with a pair of pliers. As said before, take the corners off first.
