Aguilar DB210 or Barefaced Two10ST?

Hi!

Since I feel like I've lurked through the whole forum, I thought I'd ask for your help myself. I'm currently deciding between the Aguilar DB210 and Barefaced Two10ST cabs. I'm pairing the cab with Tone Hammer 700. I used to have a Tone Hammer 500 + DB112 which was a great punchy setup, but I sometimes felt that DB112 could have had a bit more low-end extension and a bit better dispersion. But the sound and punch were amazing so I feel like the DB210 would almost be a safe choice.

Those of you who have experiences with both – would you chime in? I hear that Two10ST has better dispersion and extended low end. But is it punchy enough to cut through the live mix?

The DB210 is very heavy. Way beyond what I can lift these days. I'd probably have trouble with 2 of us carrying it!!

I played a TH500 through a Two10 and it sounded great. Then into 2 Two10's and the sound was even better.

Maybe you can see where I'm going with this?

I’m surprised you wanted more low end from the DB112, I’ve used a pair of them a number of times and always felt they were pretty full on the bottom. Not as scooped as some of the more modern sounding Aggie stuff so maybe that’s the difference, if the mids are more present the lows don’t seem to push through as strong, but still.

If the DB210 is similar and you liked the DB112 then those might work for you. I’ve had a couple of the barefaced two10 cabs but haven’t owned or played the Aguilar 210 so I can give a complete comparison.

I’d say the barefaced offers more of a balanced sound, probably less low end rumble than the aguilar stuff but more even in response. As pointed out they’d be half the weight of the DB cabs. One thing those Aguilar cabs have going for them is they’re built like tanks. The barefaced construction is really unique, it’s so much lighter than you’d expect but in a good way (in other words not to imply that they’re cheaply or inadequately built).

The reason I sold my first two10 was I had a number of 4 ohm cabs and needed an 8 ohm cab. I bought another one later as I really do like the compact 4 ohm option. If you wanted to run a pair you’d either have to run them in the 12 ohm mode or have a 2 ohm stable amp.
