Aguilar DB751 too much for SL112s

I don't have any experience with the SL line, but I have cranked my DB750 many times into two GS112 or two DB112 cabs with no issues. I'm talking outdoors with no PA support, amp cranked past noon on the master and the gain at 1:00. Never had an issue with them at all. Unless you are going for really crazy volume, they will not turn to ash. They will warn you if you are pushing them too hard.

Obviously boosting large amounts of bass etc. can damage pretty much anything, but in normal use, I don't think there is much to worry about with two SL 112 cabs. For the record, I usually run my mids at one or two o'clock and the bass cut at around ten or eleven o'clock. I use mostly passive Fenders, but sometimes I'll use an active Modulus five string. But seriously, I have run the master up as high as two o'clock, and that's pretty loud, with no speaker issues.

Hi!

Is the aguilar DB751 too powerful to be played through two SL112s?

Even low volumes? Cranked up, would it just blow the speakers?

Thanks!

I've played only one SL112, and while it takes a good pounding for a 112, yes, I would be cautious about cranking a DB751 hard into one for sure. Lower volumes, no problem. Just use your ears and the common sense you were born with, assuming you were born with it ;) One can never tell, but you asked, so that's a good sign you've got some!

Hey Mark! Been a while...how's things going?

Hey Jimmy,
Yeah, haven't been around too much as of late. Retired from playing about a month ago. All the driving and hauling got to be too much with my day gig! The band had gotten pretty stale as well. Chilling for a bit. Needed to take care of some family things and my crumbling house!

Tell you what, I've been playing one of those Fender '63 reissues, a P bass, into that sweet '77 B-15n, and with the foam mute on there, what a wonderful sound! Trying to get my old Jazz bass back into shape and I still want to get my old SVT working (Magnavox "blueline" not sure of the year). Trouble is I'm over the sixty line and I don't think I can lift the darn thing.

So, eventually I hope to land an easy gig up this way. Got to get over to Tavares and Mt. Dora to some of those jams over there. No more Moose clubs in Kissimmee etc.! From what I hear, the old band has returned to it's roots as a country (mostly) act. I miss playing, but NOT that much. Just trying to keep my chops up the usual ways.

I hear you! I just got a Heritage SVT rig last year, and as much as I'd like to think I could haul it everywhere for every gig, I can't.

I think you could probably land a gig any time you wanted. But enjoy your vacation from it...sometimes you need to clear your mind out a little...I get it. Wish I could ;) Have a good one.

Low volumes will be fine. More than enough power to turn the cabs to ash though.

What CL said...lower volumes are fine, as the amp isn't putting out the full wattage, but that amp has more than enough headroom to literally rip those drivers apart if you push it.
