I wish the demo video included a section more in line with their current pickup demo videos for the AG line. The AG demo videos give a really nice picture of the difference between the pickups. For the new videos there is so much going on in the backing track and the bass is kinda low in the mix I can't really tell how these are different from other P or J pickups. I have the AG PJ set which sounds really good, and I have a HOT P pickup waiting for the rest of the parts for a build, so would like to hear better how these compare. I think the HOT Js sound good and aggressive in the demo. If these had some of that oomph but with a nice clarity they could be interesting.
Really excited for the J set! Anybody know the release date? Seems to be $220 for the 4J set on Sweetwater.

Got word from Sweetwater that a batch is coming in mid March. I might preorder a 4J set for my Vintera 70 Jazz.
Apparently these pickups are made of unobtainium, I've tried every major website and guitar shop in a 200 mile radius and their pre orders are GONE meaning I have to wait on a second shipment. Anyone know a retailer still taking orders for their first drop (March 1st)?

Honestly. I’m close to buying a set of EMG PJX. But i’ll still probably pre-order the Aguilars on Sweetwater.
For anybody who’s interested, Gear Tree from Reverb is selling a J set, P, and PJ set. Only one each so better grab it! I might pull the trigger on the J set.
hey all, anyone get these and install? I just did in my TMB100, wiring was a little wonky to get right but once grounded right and all works fine(and was mainly due to ripping out all of the Ibanez stock electronics) but I seem to have a serious imbalance on the output between the P and J, matched pup height and still same.......otherwise sound amazing and serious range of tone and sound!!!!
Which of your pickups had the higher output? Usually it would be the P but in the demo video the P sounded quieter.
Yeah that is what I expected too but it is the p that seems a little weak when soloed, gonna open it up and recheck the p wire to the blend pot

Yes I own them, and they are incredible sounding pups.
I have them in my jazz bass, I have nylon flats and run it Xotic SP compressor > Tech 21 VT bass preamp > Aguilar AG500 DC (dirty channel) > Aguilar GS212.
As you can see, there's a lot going on and a lot of knobs to fiddle with. But when everything is just so, the sound is indescribably good. It's just... it. Full, articulate, punchy, nuanced, crisp l... I can't even explain it to you.
I got a sketchy off-brand body and had some sketchy building work done. So there's limitations but the glory of these pickups shines through. I imagine it will be even better when I get a proper Warmoth body gone over by a pro.

How do the pups sound before your set-up does it's thing?
I have a U.S. G&L Jazz bass, presently with EMG JVX pups. They're great for certain things but not what I was expecting, nor wanting for this bass. Your description pretty much says it. Would it be fair to say, they're not too scooped, but also not too heavy mids either?
I realize the only way to truly know how they'll sound is to grab them.
I just got a set of these and the pickup screw holes are exactly right for my Am. Std Jazz. It's like they are a little too close together and the pickups bind on the screws when trying to adjust the height.

I also have a TMB100 which i would like to upgrade, and i am caught between the Aguilar DCB-PJ and Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound PJ. There are a lot of reviews on the Seymour's, however very little on the Aguilar's.
How does your pubs sound , and are you happy with them ?
Also, when you said you ripped out all of the electronics, did it include the 2 dual pods as well ?

Hey there, I did the same dance trying to decide and was torn between ceramic and alnico too……I absolutely love my dcb-pj but one thing to note is the j pup sits way higher to the strings to get a balance output and yea……it’s a full rewire if you go full passive and want the controls Aguilar recommends……that said their tech support said it would also work just wiring into the tmb stock pups but you’ll have to figure out the wiring between the two….sadly Aguilar had nothing but the pots in the box so I ended up getting a full passive pot kit from Dan at 509 customs who is a very cool luthier and will help you out with the rewiring as much as he can remotely from MN
