Hello

I now own Mark Bass equiptment, that I know has been made in Italy. I recently purchased some Aguilar equiptment on line, and was surprised that the boxes that arrived, said made in China?

I thought Aguilar gear was made in New York?

Is this everything or just that model?

I have a question for you, and you are probably the only one qualified on this board. Other than economic considerations, is there much difference in the quality of manufactured musical equipment made in Asian Rim countries vs elsewhere in the world?

Quality wise it all depends.
The Chinese will make whatever you ask them to at whatever quality you specify.
Lots of stuff is made using Chinese components assembled by robots. The robots don’t know what country they are in!

It depends. Quality can be outstanding or terrible depending on what their customer is willing to pay, and the effort they are willing/able to stay on top of quality audits and controls.

The other aspect of outsourcing is that while the short term costs to a brand are lower, there are hidden long term costs that impact the employment and infrastructure support in the brand’s region.

A lot of the bread-and-butter gear, yeah, but not everything.
They actually made a big deal about bringing it all back to Italy with the new 58R series.

Your MarkBass has been made in China and Indonesia for years. Only the early MarkBass was made in Italy and that don’t last very long before they shipped it out for Asian market production to save on cost.

Except than MarkBass doesn't and hasn't (that I am aware of) ever manufactured their amps in China. They are currently building some models in Indonesia and some models in Italy.

I tend to be pretty picky about this.
Everything can be outsourced so you might need to support 'local' if you want to keep an industry.

And yep, it costs.

I would not think where product is made, unless there is ideological/political reasons behind it. I like to get quality products, but even that is not making sure to have good stuff out of the box.

My 2022 Fender AM Pro2 5 string Jazz bass (USA) had an issue with E/A string retainer in headstock and I needed to move it 2mm to E string side to keep string firmly under it. Darkglass B3K pedal (Finland) had an issue of footswitch connecting unreliably when pressed. One of my friends Marshall JMP preamp (UK) midi control port did not react to midi commands. All of these products had quality issues out of the box.

On the other hand my Crown XLS 1002 (China), Hartke Hydrive 810 (China), Sansamp RBI (USA), QSC PLX2 1802 (USA) and Markbass 104HF and 102HF cabs (Indonesia) have been working for a good while without any problems.

Just picked up a pre Korg AG-700. Was curious as to where it was made and stumbled on this thread. Does anybody know for sure?

Imv, this is a play on words but they can't say 'made' ...which tells you they dont really want to shout out loud not made in the US.
Tacky...but tbf, Aguilar are far from the only ones shifting manufacturing overseas for some of their product line.
