Aguilar Fuzzistor- Everything I hoped it would be

I'd rather not send speaker sim to my rig either, but I've yet to find one with only XLR outs, and I'm not all that enthralled by them anyway, as the vast majority seem to be all about guitar. So I just use an SCR-DI or VTD and deal with it going through my cab.

In this instance I'll work out a good direct tone with heaphones or a full range speaker before the gig and then run my bass amp as a monitor with the treble boosted to compensate. It has become my goto method when going direct.

I'm fortunate that my sound doesn't require any compensation since I don't use tweeters anyway, but that's basically what I do.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago and moved it on swiftly. It doesn't play well with my Yamaha BB or P Bass with high output pickups with a lot of low end... hard to describe but it's similar to what I experienced with the Supercollider with the depth control set to maximum bass - the character of the fuzz changes from a nice rich sound to a scooped synthy sound when the front end of it is overloaded. Back off the volume of the bass or put another pedal in front and it sounded awesome. So it would sound good in some player's rigs / signal chains and not others, just unfortunately not mine!

I've currently got a Fuzzistor on loan. I'll say this....I don't think I've ever had a pedal with a deeper, cleaner bottom end. The bottom is HUGE, deep, and clear. I could probably understand what dannybuoy is saying though, but I reduce the gain coming out of my compressor (first in the chain) so everything gets a low volume signal so nothing is overloaded.

Just got a fuzzistor...you guys weren't kidding about low end! Definitely the phattest sounding fuzz i've played. Sounds pretty awesome, and I love the tone in my practice space. Not sure if it will be too bassy in a live context when it's on my board...I'll have to wait and see.

I'd like to see Aguilar do an overdrive with a bottom end like the Fuzzistor! It makes the Agro seem malnourished in comparison. That would be an interesting OD.

I'm still wishing that they'd do a boost/mild OD based around the AGS circuit and that lovely tilt EQ control they have on the Octamizer. Man, that would sound great.

I used my Octamizer for a long time with the octave completely off. I just liked the EQ. Made for a fantastic fattener/high cut.

After playing around with the Fuzzistor I parted ways with it today. I couldn't get the tones I hoped to out of it because it had a high fuzzy top (even with the massive bottom end) which isn't what I'm looking for for the band I'm currently with.

Being a fan of all things Aguilar, I had high hopes for the new Fuzzistor pedal. There are many fuzz pedals that claim to not lose the low end, and some do this successfully while others do not. The Swollen Pickle does a great job of keeping the low end and the sounds are incredible, but I find it difficult to dial in a mild fuzz setting. I received my Fuzzistor yesterday and could not be happier. As has been stated in some of the videos and description, it really does go mild warm fuzz to gnarly, all while retaining the low end. The blend knob is key as is the tone which only affects the fuzz tone without thinning out the clean signal. The low end is truly retained as it is with the Swollen Pickle, but the Fuzzistor seems to have much more versatile/usable fuzz for what I'm going for. Anyone else try it out yet?

I love this pedal, it's basically my entire fuzz, distortion rig. The versatility is insane. I compared it to the MXR in the shop and the Aguilar won hands down on both versatility and sound. Every thing from Geezer Butler feel to a wall of stoner sludge

Bass Fuzz Deluxe is based on the Tonebender. The new Bass Distortion they have coming out in June is a Rat.

I used to have them both but parted with the BFD a few months ago when I scaled back my pedalboard. Half thinking about picking up another fuzz, but then I'd have to reconfig my board again, and I've really enjoyed not having to tear it down every other day like I was doing all last year

Just from listening to the demos in this thread, and I may be totally off here, but it reminded me a lot of the DOD Classic fuzz. I'm sure the low end is better on the aggie. But there's a lot of the same sounds I was hearing from both pedals. The aggie is almost certainly a much better fuzz overall.

Bringing this back from the dead...any new reviews on the Aguilar Fuzzistor? I am torn between the agro and the fuzz for dirt for more funk type stuff

I agree. The Agro has a very aggressive mid-high end that no another pedal has, but when compared to a pedal with blend you realize how lame the Agro's bottom end is.
