AGUILAR PEDALS

Okay my Low End Bros, If you had the choice of purchasing two (2) out of the four listed pedals made by Aguilar, which two (2) would you purchase and why?

TLC Compressor (Compression)
Filter Twin (Dual Envelope Filter)
Octamizer (Analog Octave)
Agro (Bass Overdrive)

Love to hear your feedback!

-Rich

From your 4 choices I only own the TLC.

I can say that this compressor it´s so quiet, so smooth and leaves my natural bass sound without coloration. So I´ll turn chossing the TLC again. Few days ago I tried the Octamizer, and it seemed to me that it had a great traking even better that MXR BOD and EBS Octabass. I keep it on my mind to replacing my old OC-2. So I´d go for it too.

The Filter Twin sounds great but, I think that probably I´d be too much happier with another one like Wonderlove or Groove Regulator for fingering playing. For the slapping the MXR is my thing! And the Agro doesn´t like his tone to much.

I got the Agro,Filter Twin and Octamizer and used them in front of a REDDI tonight. The sound guy immediately came over and commented that my clean tone sound choked and lacking detail compared to when I didn't have pedals in the signal path. I know these pedals are true bypass but they do seem to roll of highs when not engaged. Anyone else have this problem?

I myself would go for the Agro and the Octamizer if I had nothing at all. I love octave and dirt pedals more than comps and filters. But filters are fun too. With my current setup, I would choose the Filter Twin and TLC, just because I dont have a dedicated comp or analogue octave..... Funny how that worked out huh? ;)
 You are ridiculous!

I have all 4 pedals listed and given 2 choices I'd definitely go with TLC and Filter Twin.

TLC: At first, I don't believe that a compressor could actually do something but I fell in love with this pedal after a few tries and noticed the difference. I think most of us agree on what Ovnilabs has to say about this pedal as well.

Filter Twin: I couldn't get the best out of it with my fuzz on but when it's played with a clean sound, it's kinda sexy...

I leave the Agro out because it was too harsh for me. Also, Octamizer does octave down and I don't need one at this moment and it was a purchase due to GAS at that point of time. However, I doubt I'm selling my Agro anytime soon. Or maybe I will?

They are all true bypass. The sound guy was on crack.

They are not true bypass. Aguilar even says on their website that they are not. They have a buffered bypass. It's not that bad of a bypass but they do roll off highs. I A/B'd the signal with and without them in the chain. This is why I only go straight in. Effects aren't worth it to me. Unless it's compression.

I never realized they weren't true bypass! Found an old description from Dave about it:
Aguilar/Dave B. said:
"Gig Saver" means that if your battery dies you will still pass signal through the pedal.
It is a footswitch that switches the signal, connecting the input to the output in bypass mode. "partial true bypass" would be a reasonable description.

While they're not true true bypass, they're not buffered either. And you have to remember, every pedal you add to your chain is essentially adding cable length, which in turn will ultimately reduce your highs. Buffers will actually help with this while true bypass does not.

See above for information regarding the nature of Aggie's bypass. I, too, thought it was true bypass, but nonetheless it isn't buffered.

As for effects being "worth it", there is no way that you'll ever get an effected sound out of plugging "straight in", and if loss of highs is that much of an issue, then hopefully you have either a) a very short cable, b) an active preamp onboard, c) a buffer somewhere in your choice, and/or d) some sort of line driver/boost going on. Personally, I get a far better sound out of having my effects on board then I would otherwise, but I also recognize that to each their own.

Back to the issue at hand - Aguilar pedals are some of the best made and highest quality effects out there, which is why they are used by all sorts of professionals in both live and studio settings. I'm still looking forward to trying out their Chorusaurus and new Fuzz pedal!

Did the older models have this "gig-saver" option?

Recently I've been looking at the aguilar agro bass distortion pedal. I was looking around on bass distortion pedals and this pedal seems to have a pretty heavy sound. I was thinking about getting if I needed a new distortion pedal for my bass. that or the zoom ms-60b.
If you only want a distortion effect I recommend you buy a dedicated one (like the Agro or other that you like).
The Zoom is the best option for a great collection of effects at good price, but in your case you need only one.

I'm sorry for my English.

Greetings!
