Aguilar Pickups

Hey Justin, I hope this was not brought up before, didn't find it with the search engine.
Aguilar quotes you on their site (and misspell your last name :D):

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

"I had always found that on my stock Jazz bass, I'd have to roll off quite a lot on the tone knob to mitigate some of the top-end harshness from the pickups. But these warm-sounding Aguilar pickups have the perfect balance, lows to highs, right out of the box. They are very inviting to play" - Justin Meldal-Johnson

I'm curious wether this difference in pickups is such that it would (or maybe it did) make you change the stock pickups in your stock basses. I guess I'm asking how good they are.

thanks!
mike

Do you feel like they're at least comparable to your older pickups? Obviously, pickup to pickup there are differences in "vintage" basses, but just curious at how these fair. Since you "really REALLY like them", it's nice to know how your ears react to them.

I may check those out then. Just picked up an oly white 2007/8 Fender American Standard Jazz V (came with TI flats) and am looking to take the tone a little further back in time.

Liking the TalkBass iPhone app? :) I just downloaded it the other day.

Those pickups are great!!! I love them too, and while they're not dark, the top is super smooth.

I have them wired in parallel with just a single volume pot and a p-bass value tone setup... .1uf, I think? That's on my '77 jazz.

Interesting to hear you mention not having to roll off the tone. I feel the same way. I like them so.

Word.

I've composed a video demoing my new bass and it has the Aguilar 60's pickups in my 5 string jazz bass built by Pavel De La Fuente out of Haltom City, TX. If you are wondering what they sound like, here is a demo that I did showing you...

Sounds amazing. Warm vintagey tone.

That Pavel looks like a Carvin SB5000 single cut. Not a disparaging comment, I like SB5000's.
