Aguilar SL410x?

I am an Aguilar guy and have a DB751/DB410/DB112x2, SL112x2, TH500 And TH Pedal.

Today I went and checked out one of the SL410x cabs with an AG700, primarily because I am considering the option of a lighter 410 to go with the DB751 or TH500.

Using an AM Std Jazz I was pleasantly surprised with the tone compared to the somewhat flat sound on some YT videos, although of course it was a less mid-range-orientated sound than the DB cabs.

I was wondering if:

1. Anyone had done an A/B test with a DB410 and what they thought
2. Anyone used the SL410x in a live set-up and what they thought

A

Took the plunge.

How do you like the cab? I’m strongly considering one of these. I would be playing an ampeg svt-vr through it. A 410 at 49lbs sounds perfect!

I like it a lot, after being very hesitant after having bad tonal experiences with other neo cabs including SL112s. I tend to use it more with a TH500 than the DB751 as a great 'bar rig' but it can certainly cope with a larger amp like the DB751, Super Bassman 300T or Ampeg SVT-VR. The thing I like about it compared to other neo's is that it has that Aguilar warmth. And yes at 49lbs and being compact it is easy to move around.

It. Is. Perfect!

I've had mine for about six months and it's exceeded my expectations. Running it with a Mesa D800+. It's deep when I need it to be, it's bright when I need it to be. And throwing it around at the end of the night? Worth every penny.

Edit: Oops. Sorry, I just saw the op was in 2017 and you took the plunge.

Thank you for the response, very helpful and definitely makes me want to get it even more.I have an ampeg 610 for the loud shows but man I’m sick of using for every gig as it’s the only cab I own at the moment. Considering the db410 as well. I like it more cosmetically, but I’m trying to get away from the heavy weight (although my head weighs in at 85lb). Something about Aguilar really intrigues me though. Any experience with the db410?

I love Aguilar gear and also have a DB410 which I got to pair with the DB751. You are right in that it is great cosmetically as well as sonically and can handle bigger gigs. It really punches through a mix well without having to overdo the volume - it was listening to the guy in Vintage Trouble - Rick Bario Dill as well as Paul Turner from Jamiroquai that got me interested. I used the DB751/DB410 at a gig a few weeks ago and it was worth the effort, but also used the SL410x with my TH500 at a gig last night and that sounded great too. Its nice to have both to be honest but that is a luxury of course.

Yes, it took a while.

Its great telling band members that you are fine to carry the cab on your own. Its lighter that a Berg HDN410, Fender Neo 410 and a Markbass 104HF and about the same as a Markbass 104HR and to my ears sounds better than all of them.

I A/B'd the DB410 and SL410x last week at Sam Ash during lunchtime. Was happy to see they had both of these cabs ready to go. I was unfortunately only able to test at practice volumes for 10-15 mins on the tonehammer master at 9 and gain at 12. Pretty much flat, with minimal drive 10 o clock. I used a Geddy Lee signature Jazz to test with, all knobs dimed.

I am in the market for both these cabs. I deadlifted each cab a few times. The smaller footprint of the SL makes a big difference in how compact the cab is. And yeah it's stupid light for a 4x10.
The SL had more low and high end focus as expected. Definitely felt like the even response helped tame the tonehammer mids a bit. DB and TH500 felt very mid forward for me and lacking booty. This could change in practice/live setting considerably.

I will feel more comfortable with using other brand heads with the SL. I'm leaning toward a 4 ohm SL in Dorian Grey from sweetwater but these cabs are so pricey I'm waiting to maybe play them again. I felt the need to take a picture, considering how lucky I felt to just walk in and A/B these beauties.

I'm curious what you ended up doing and how it's going? Did you get the SL410? I'm looking at these too and am struggling between the two. I'm not afraid of heavy (sorta lol). Based on your description I might actually like SL410 better. I play a Cirrus which already emphasizes mids.

I have both cabs and am selling the DB410 for the single reason that it has only left the house three times since I bought it. At 98lb it is not a one man lift for me at least.

Wanted to find out if anyone is using 2 410s. I currently use a Sl 410 with a Sl 1x15 with the Ag 700. Also what is any other amp will drive these, looking to use it with a Spector NS 2j and searching for that growl. BTW the 15 does add that clear low-end thump I thought was missing. I am even considering getting a Aguilar 751 if it is what is required to get that punchy growl.
