Aguilar Tone Hammer vs. Ampeg SCR-DI

Love my TH. But you know, it's always fun to try something new!

I did a search and was surprised that I didn't get any useful hits. Double checked my spelling and searched again...And got the same (non) results.

Anybody have any experience A/B-ing the TH and the SCR-DI?

Hello , I have not been able to do an A / B test , but one of my students has the TH and for me there is no comparison .

I love the classic tone ampeg and scr is great for this !

Tonehammer was a good option before SCR-DI showed up I tried TH, but didn't like how it sounded with dirt pedals. Scrambler is very usable unlike AGS in TH. For me, headphone/aux is hands down the best feature of this pedal.

Does the ampeg pedal gives you that ampeg sound?

I played trough a Portaflex head with 2x10" cab and was amazing!

It gives you the solid state Ampeg sound and a reasonable likeness of the tube Ampeg sound.

i'm in the same situation: must buy a preamp and i'm between the tone hammer and the scr-di.
it will be placed at the end of the chain (comp, micro pog, od-dist, preamp) and i would need it for a tube-like breakup tone, something like a semi-cranked svt. No need for proper distortion, i'll have a fuzzrocious demon for that.
the scrambler seems the way to go but i'm really intrigued by the semi parametric mid control on the aguilar....otherwise, in the video samples i've found tone hammer's saturation - from a certain gain level onwards - a bit strange, maybe overcompressed or "fake".
the scr-di seems more in your face with strong presence, maybe a bit clicky, while the aguilar seems smooth and velvety, how do they both react with another distortion pedal engaged in the same pedal chain?
and how they compare quality-wise with the mxr M80?
any suggests or opinions?

The SCR-DI is a great addition if you are looking for a preamp that will give you the Ampeg tone. The EQ with the addition of the ultra low and high in the mix can give you thick and rich rock tones. I like to give the pedal a touch of overdrive to give it a "tube break up" feel to it and it sounds pretty good. I don't find the pedal to have that baked in feeling or fake emulation that some preamps have like TC.

This is a great pedal DI to piggy back off of other DI's like the Reddi or the SVT DI. I plug my instrument into the SVT DI and then loop it into the SCR DI for shaping. I couldn't be happier in a mix or in the recording studio. The pedal has a great feel and weight to it. Built like a tank stomp box and durable. The DI is very flexible.
