I was able to find a tone very similar to my Bass 400+ with this thing. Clean tone was not quite there with the TH...the clean on the 400+ is just so warm and clear and full all at the same time that I've yet to hear anything better. However, I was actually able to dial in a nicer od with the TH than I could ever get with my 400+. Not sure why...I'd have thought the all tube design in the Boogie would have achieved a nicer sounding od, but it always sounded kinda farty to me...not a smooth overdrive at all. The AGS channel on the TH, especially at lower gain settings, is all about creamy warmth.

I'm gonna be kicking myself for awhile for doing it, but I let go of the Boogie last month. My plan is to run the TH through a Crown K1 I have lying around and save myself 25 lbs or so. So far, I'm pretty happy. Hopefully, with a little tweaking, I'll soon forget all about those 45 pounds and 16 glowing tubes lol.

Being on the go a lot I had to pick one up.

Mine just showed up today and thought I would be using it for fly by night situation since I'm on the go a lot and wanted something that have no line signal to also power straight into a power amp.

Well to my surprise I like the tone of TH as a buffer to my MKII espicially since I don't really use the EQ on most of my basses %99 of the time and play flat. The TH offerend another deminsion to the over all character to the sound even set basically flat.

It really came out with the very polite sounding Acme B2 with the MKII and jazz basses.

Very nice.

Hats off to you Dave on this one.

Finally got to try one of these last Saturday... I feel ashamed to be an Aguilar enthusiast and having waited this long to try one.

I love the clean sound - it's the Aguilar sound we know and love. I never thought a DB750 could possibly sound any better, put one of these in front and WOW!

On the flipside, I do agree with previous posts regarding the single gain knob. I didn't like how the clean volume jumped up quite drastically if you dialed in more overdrive. That maybe a deal breaker for me... But then again, I am thinking long and hard about how much I will really use the overdrive. An independent Gain knob for the AGS would just be super.

I already own an AG500 and my idea is to use a ToneHammer in situations that I don't need my/an amp onstage but just go directly into the board using the stage monitors.
Would the Tonehammer connected via the DI sound exactly the same as my AG500 through its DI (pre)?
In that case I suppose I would just use the tonehammer as a DI and not use any of its other features?

Ok guys..Im thinking of gettin one of these little fella, my set up is for smaler gigs peavy tvx 4x10 and the messa walkabout head, I use passive bass`s and will this unit give me that little bit extrat in the tonal overall eff; any one using the messa will know its a serious little amp and outputs a lots of bottom end mmm.
any thoughts ?

I dig using my tonehammer and walkabout together. You can add some extra grit to the tone without having the push up the gain knob on the walkabout. Compliments the old school tone of the head.

wow.... merry xmas to me... I picked up a "used" tone hammer from music123 and used a 15% code... so I got it for $148 shipped! Only thing that leads me to believe it was used is that the box looks like it was opened.


UPS guy dropped it off 4 hours ago and I've officially screwed my last minute shopping up.... so I'm kicking it on talkbass now... gotta say this thing with my mb2500 sounds great.. cant wait to take it to the studio and try it with my big rig.

Loving the setting that Vivi Rama has posted on the Aguilar page!

yes... the AGS engage has a big volume boost... however I dont plan on using this as a pedal per say.. its going as an "always on" and stuck in the rack.

wow.. thats pretty amazing to ditch you mesa! what are your settings to get a tone similar to your old 400+?
