ah, my first "Rage Quit" ever

Not recommended, because it often leaves a stink on your reputation as well, but sometimes people have just been begging for the good ol' middle finger as you're on your way out, and you simply oblige them.

I've only done it a couple of times, but it sure felt right. On one occasion (as a guitar/keys player) I made up my mind after the last song on a Friday night, went back to the club Saturday morning to collect my rig, and did not show for Saturday night, or ever again. They deserved it.

I could have waited a few days, after the show and done it in a more measured way. Telling the singer "I quit. I'm done!" on stage right after the last song was my "rage". but I don't care about this bridge being burned. I had reached the end of my rope. but I probably could've waited until sunday or something and sent them a more measured note telling them that they need to find a replacement.

but ...I didn't

See - while I say make it professional.....always...

There should have been C4 all over that bridge.

Nah. There wasn't any truly evil people in the band. Just a lousy band that can't seem to improve and that gig and what the guitarist did was the last straw. I don't have to blow them out of the water with c4. Its just not something I will ever go back to. Not for me. I'm sure they will find someone who wants the gig. I don't wish them bad luck. I wasn't mistreated. Or lied to. It just isn't for me.

“Bridges burned,” to me, would involve either really unforgivable words or behavior.

The “smarmy lies” I was referring to are the “I’m just going a different way...” sort of thing when the real thing is, “I can’t stand where we are going, or the fact that we are NOT going anywhere better.”

“I can’t take this anymore! I quit!” is a pretty solid statement. No name-calling, and they knew exactly what was wrong without you saying more.

That’s why I said, “Well done.” Things could have been more destructive or more dishonest. But you were neither.

Where's the RAGE?! Was expecting something juicy, but this has as much juice as a sandbox. I understand being angry and quitting, I also understand your reasons, but where's the rage? I feel a rage quit shows everyone around that you're pissed to the max, making you act in a brutal manner in which you would never do in a good state of mind

I apologize, maybe I showed a bit more rage than I should have. I understand how you felt the rage. Especially after the turdshow you had just been put through. My vote is for stealing the drummer for a new project

Not a chance. The drummer was at best mediocre. Nice guy, but not up to snuff at all. As I said, this band had 2 weak links going into last weekend - the singer and the drummer. Then this tremendous guitarist gets poopie-faced during the gig. That doesn't leave much to work with.

The only one I would play with again is the rhythm guitarist whom I have known for many years.

Sounds more like self-respect rather than rage quitting to me.

A good part of your reputation is established by the people you’re seen hanging out with. Don’t ever let a jerk make people conclude you must be a jerk too.

It's amazing what we'll tolerate in hopes of making something work. I've recently parted ways with my band. In all honesty, they initiated the split, but I was in serious contemplation as to why I was still fighting the same battles and they were on their last straw in my book and there was the potential for a melt down rage quit in my future.

There's always something else out there - I already landed what I'm hoping will be a fun, no pressure musical outlet and have an audition for a challenging musical outlet this weekend.

Turn the page and move on brother.

Similar situation here, mon ami. The last band I joined was doing fairly well, playing monthly or so March 2019 through March 2020 before the pandemic. We'd built up a good following due to 2 members being lifelong residents of the town we were based out of, so there was a good built-in crowd base. Band members ranged from very good to drummer.

There were other band motivational issues (eg, my "Let's not return from a year-or-so hiatus with only 3 or 4 new songs!" was met with apathy), but my rhythm section partner was the most irksome.
