AI (Artificial Intelligence) Creators Club!

each image was generated at Invalid Link Removed , and then i used the runway app for those 4,8,12, or 16-second video segments. (for that piece, i mostly used 4-second and 8-second renders.) i used VSDC to slow the renders, speed them up, make them play backwards, etc. i chained them all together in VSDC. in the video editing software, the audio shows much like DAWs show them (peeks and valleys) so making those short runway segments work was easy.
(@RustfeatherBass got me hip to the AI apps, but i'm not sure what video editor he used for his AI-based videos.)
perfect! it's probably a "deeper" version of windows movie maker which is what i used for this piece --- to "stitch" pictures together for on-the-beat stuff --- it allows me to calculate the duration of each/all pics. this was done during the pandemic lockdown (trying to entertain and stay in touch with our small but dedicated fanbase):
edit: but i used VSDC to string together all of the 'stitches' and marry them to the audio!
OK, so i've heard from a couple of peeps (a friend, a bandmate) after they caught the video:
- both were impressed with "the AI idea."
- both were creeped out some --- "it doesn't look like you guys/us/me."
- i think the drummer feels like his 'spirit' is being messed with...
and, i'm not sure why i think their reaction to the video is funny to me...but i'll have to alter my POV on this.
but, none of our fans have had the video foisted on them, yet, so i may have to rethink my band's best use of these tools, ATM, given my limited skills...i think they're fun and funny: but those two think they're not that fun, and definitely not funny!
they're both younger than myself, so neither have the strawberry fields or lucy in the sky with diamonds experiences that i've had, could be a part of it....

I have been programming for 45 years. I have hired many programmers. I call them Fxxxxing programmers 99% of the time. For a reason.
To think of them, writing stuff to spit out automagically what they could not get done on time and right in the first place, at massive scale, scares the bejezuz out of me.
However, I know some smart lads that think I am going to get lost in the "transition" - aka I am a Dinosaur.
I love the movie Lost in Translation. And I love the song "I am a Dinosaur" when played by Adrian Below.
Now I love them both even more..

I've been thinking a lot about an open source, AI driven digital streaming platform, where most of the profits go to the content creator. I think people like Elon Musk see it coming. He does seem to want restrictions on AI, which is wise considering how wrong AI could potential go. But in terms of getting the bulk of the profits to the content creators, I'm all for that.

i don't disagree. i'm not creating art when night cafe or runway generates images/vids from my prompts. my prompts are not art, nor are they 'artistic'. and even if i was clever/patient enough to get an AI generated image that i thought was perfect (for my use), i'd consider myself lucky --- but still, not an artist.

Does "Band in a Box" qualify? It is useful to create backing-tracks.
The definition of AI keeps changing. Scanners were AI 30 years ago.
They now have AI that can generate music from just a text description, but I have not played with that. Is this thread specifically for generative AI (e.g. LLM)? Seems like we'd want to keep "tracks" and "standard notation" close at hand.

Is this the "AI Creators Club" or the "AI Detractors Club"?
With the assumption that TalkBass forum members are interested in how AI can support bass-playing...
...there is now AI software that can either remove or isolate bass (and other parts). So, you could feed it a song, and have it remove the bass part (for practicing covers), or isolate the bass part (to make it easier to transcribe the bass part).
Similar to Band-in-a-Box, you could give AI a prompt ("Write me a fusion of jazz and polka, 120bpm, key of F, without a bass part") and use the result as a backing-track.
Google or search YouTube if interested.
Note: I have been leery of technology since the 70s/80s when bass-synth parts (keyboards) became popular.
