Hi TB – I missed that this part of the forum existed. Better late than never.
I like it here! I love reading about peoples gigs, what people are into, and it's been cool to see some in depth discussion around instruments and gear, too.
The electric bass is my favorite instrument to play. I love stuff like The Raconteurs, Vulfpeck (happy owner of a SBMM JD II), or playing along with any number of pop things that my family wants to listen to.
I've only ever had a single paid gig on bass years and years ago (but a bunch of bands that never got off the ground), and otherwise all my paid work was on guitar or mandolin, but it's been a couple years since I've actually gigged at all. Lately I've been getting the itch to get back out there, but it's been hard to force myself to make time for yet-another-thing, even one I miss.
I do better with one thing at a time, so I'm working on finishing recording some of the guitar stuff I played at open mics over the last couple years, and then I'm hoping to use that to motivate myself to buy an actual bass amp and start looking around for some people to play with. It's already making me pick up my basses a lot more regularly than I have been, and I'm trying to build up habits to keep the momentum.
It feels like it's all coming together toward nothing in particular, but I'm having a good time doing it!
