Air bass

Few days ago I saw a man playing air bass. He was just amazing. I decided to buy one.

What air basses can you recommend me for a reasonable price? What strings do you prefer on air bass? What is your experience with it?

Nitrogen dioxide is more expensive, but you get the right tone. Don't go for anything carbon based. Those air basses just go thud. And, always use an oxygen free cable.

You are right. A friend of mine told me that carbon based basses doesn´t cut throught the mix.

As a matter of fact, some carbon air basses just pollute the mix. If you need a really sharp tone, you might want to consider some sulfuric pickups, but you really have to want those. I don't like them, because they really stink if they don't get installed right.

For what it's worth, I have the worlds largest air bass collection---some 23,000+ and counting.

The best part is, my wife doesn't even know about it!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I play my best air bass at Rush concerts.

I´m sure I will install phosgene oxime pick ups, they are able to generate a little yellow elephant who walks with a limp and tells you what notes you should play.

Be careful about being caught playing air bass. Becomes more critical as you age. On the other hand, if you really don't care, you're good. Play on but you have to be able to simulate an SVT with your mouth. This is where things usually fall pretty flat. But don't give up.
