AKG D112 vs Heil PR40 on bass cab

I know this topic has been debated to death, but none of the threads I've read cover my specific use for the microphone. I'm looking for something to mic my bass cab as a supplement to my DI tone. The sound I get out of my DI has great bite, and point to stand out in a mix, but the lows are lacking. However I really enjoy the sound that is coming out of my cab so I don't want to touch the EQ settings on my amp or bass. Rather than just do more post EQing I want to get the right sound going into my DAW (something everyone should do).

So I'm going back and forth between these two mics. A lot of people have been bashing the D112, but it's always in the context of it being the only mic used. I like the low end bump it has in it's EQ response chart and I've tried on kick and it sounded great, but never on a bass cab.

D112 isn't as hyped as some of the other kick mics but it's still scoopy. I find sometimes this works and sometimes not (tone and song dependent). I'd get the PR40 as the flatter response makes it more versatile and it's also great for vocals (and almost anything else) but I encourage you to try both.

Yes - the AKG D 112 is scooped - by design. It can handle 155 dB SPL thanks to the fact that it has a genuine 1-inch diaphragm. Many other bass mics have a big fat housing with a small diaphragm capsule inside. It works well, sounds good and can't be overdriven.

What about the EV N/D868? That's another one that's caught my eye. I haven't found much on it being used on a bass cab but what I've heard from it on kick is it has a nice low end sound to it, which is it exactly what I'm looking for in a mic for my bass cab.
