I believe I read an interview once that was with Tim Commerford (Rage, Audioslave) that said there was a certain fundamental one got from the index finger and that he would use alternate plucking but would often use an index finger only when he could? Does anyone else remember this? I will have to dig it up.......

I remember reading that, he based it off seeing Geddy Lee live with Rush, who often will use one finger as if it's a pick instead of alternating fingers.

Maybe. But they are doing exactly what is needed to make that band sound great.

You can get two fingers to sound consistent, it is possible, don't use only one finger thinking you can't get that pumping sound any other way. Personally, I've got it down to the point that I can't tell which finger is the lead finger (it alternates) and I get a nice even tone. Do what you feel is best, but don't use other peoples' techniques as justification for not practicing enough with 2 fingers. Efficiency of motion is crucial to not getting fatigued.

Agree. I mainly used one finger when I took up bass, but find it much easier to use two.

I like this band. And yes, I often play using only one finger but I try to use two or three "just because" I feel like I should.

Do Not Like. Speculation and cannot verify that assertion. Perhaps most bands would be nowhere without the singer.
