Albums that absolutely BLEW...

Rush's Vapor Trails has great music, but the amount of compression on the recording makes it almost unlistenable. I thought it might have been the best example of a decent album ruined by terrible production until I bought Level 42's latest album, "Retroglide", which takes the overcompression problem to a whole different level. I can't believe that they released it like that.

Somewhat agreed, but I think the worst produced Rush album was Exit Stage Left. Great playing, a great selection of songs, and the flatest mix known to man.

Metal Machine Music - Lou Reed
A double album, 4 sides of feedback, with a skip built into side 4 that would repeat the last few seconds endlessly.

In the 1979 Rolling Stone Record Guide, critic Billy Altman said it was "a two-disc set consisting of nothing more than ear-wrecking electronic sludge, guaranteed to clear any room of humans in record time."

Damn you beat me to it!! It also shows my age! Arguably, the hands down winner for me! It's not even really an album of "music" per se, now is it? If anyone posting a reply would take at least one minute of their time to listen to or should I say, "endure" this piece of artistic noise, we could close this thread "hear" and now! Trouble is, it's vinyl only and I'd highly doubt if anyone at any music firm would be mentally ill enough to waste company resources to reissue it! EXTREMELY BAD!!

Metal Machine Music by Lou Reed is so God awfully bad we used to use it at parties when we wanted the "Things that Wouldn't Leave" to finally clear out at around 4 a.m.! Everything else mentioned here absolutely pales in comparison! It really should be a required listening to those not familiar with it. Warning! Blood may potentially spew forth from every bodily orifice upon listening. A truly gut wrenching experience.

For any masochists that may want to check it out, here is 9 minutes of the first side of Metal Machine Music:

And it HAS been reissued on cd. You can get the whole album in MP3 form from Amazon for $ 4.00.

If you really want to..............

Thanks for the link! Now can we close this and every other "Worst Album of All Time" thread?

Metal Machine Music by Lou Reed is, for me anyway,........ the Winner and still Champion!

OK. So maybe I'm being a little bit harsh about Worst Album threads because this album really belongs in a class all by itself. At least everything else mentioned here "resembles" music unlike Metal Machine Music. Continue the discussion.
