Albums that absolutely BLEW...

i guess being the greatest blight on the music scene in history i would have to say anything that the beastie boys ever did has got to be the worst. i've never actually listened to any of their albums however (mostly because i don't want to have to bore my ears out with an auger), so i suppose i can't really nominate them.

as a big weezer fan i was really disappointed with make believe. the single was good, other than that though there are only two tracks that are even ok. the rest is pure dirge.

I don't LOVE it, or listen to it often.. but I appreciate as an artistic statement...

also, I don't think it was DISAPPOINTING... after every big album Lou Reed had, he released something completely unexpected... for him to keep putting out clones of previous albums would have been disappointing...

No, just kidding. The worst album for me would be "Philosophy of the World" by The Shaggs. I have listened to bits & pieces of the Lou Reed feedback album and at least you get used to it after a while and tune it out. That's not possible with The Shaggs, alas.

Ummm... on my ipod :hiding:

Doesn't anybody else like weird "outsider" noise stuff? Sure, its not anything I listen to often or for entertainment really... but there's some stuff you can learn from it, and it raises a lot of questions about music philosophy.

Ornette Coleman said that he was trying to make music a baby would make if it could... the Shaggs just succeeded in that.

P.S. The best thing about the Shaggs is while recording the record, they would stop in unison and tell the engineer they had "made a mistake" :ninja:

What is with all the people putting Load here? It is easily one of Metallica's best, a Hard Rock classic. The fact that it pisses off the heshers and twee kids who have never even listened to it just makes it that much sweeter.

Reload and St. Anger had a few good songs, but both were just poorly recorded overall.

i liked the Brown Album by Primus...
anyway, what was the album that A Perfect Circle put out....E Motion or something like that.......all i know is i was knocking down the store trying to get that album when it came out, and i remember setting in my car listening to it with a expression and a feeling like i had just been violated by a yeti.

I own it, and I've listened to it, and in the context of their other work it was bad, IMHO. And that's just it... my opinion. And probably the opinion of everyone else who put it down.

But hey, let's not go making a fun thread into a laughable debate over Metallica albums.

Knowing the "true"-metal fans I know, they would would not possess the mental resolve to actually sit through a non-metal album long enough to come to any other conclusion than some derogatory term for homosexuals. And the twee kids I know would probably come up with some blog dissertation on how 90's Metallica epitomizes the boorish male attitude that has made the world hard for "quirky" and "pseudo-[insert buzzword here]" people like them.

Oh well, I still know quite a few people who like it just as much as I do, so it is all good :D

so........ i actually like the Metal Machine Music album. i have to be in the mood for it, but it's like a window into early Merzbow.

'course, i do dig on noisier stuff. Autechre, RDJ's less accessible stuff, Melt Banana are all really good when in the right frame of mind.
