Albums that absolutely BLEW...

Although not a bad album, the latest Iron Maiden album was a HUGE let down for me. It was the first album of theirs I had to force myself to sit down and listen to because nothing just grabbed me and said "LISTEN UP!". Even after listening through it twice there was nothing to be found that was memorable or even worth ripping onto my computer.

so........ i actually like the Metal Machine Music album. i have to be in the mood for it, but it's like a window into early Merzbow.

'course, i do dig on noisier stuff. Autechre, RDJ's less accessible stuff, Melt Banana are all really good when in the right frame of mind.

I too like Metal Machine Music, even if it isn't an album I listen to often. Also, it is a groundbreaking piece, which probably helped to pave the way for hard core noise bands like the above mentioned Merzbow, as well as noisy, yet more listener-friendly, bands like Sonic Youth.

It's easy for me to see why some would consider Metal Machine Music to be the worst album ever, though. It's not as catchy as Reed's other albums, by a long shot.

it's hard to top the elder or the soulja boy tellem album though.

Kiss meets tha phantom of the park is good for more than a few laughs if you can find a copy. it's comically horrible. Classic line, "they're not real. they're robots!" also noteworthy is that in the movie when they refer to the talisman as plural they always say "talismen" when the correct plural is "talismans." please tell me this has been printed to dvd.

For years I thought trout mask replica was the worst album ever, then, when it started popping up at random on my mates i-pod I grew to quite like it.

Doesn't anybody else like weird "outsider" noise stuff? Sure, its not anything I listen to often or for entertainment really... but there's some stuff you can learn from it, and it raises a lot of questions about music philosophy.

Ornette Coleman said that he was trying to make music a baby would make if it could... the Shaggs just succeeded in that.

P.S. The best thing about the Shaggs is while recording the record, they would stop in unison and tell the engineer they had "made a mistake"

I freakin' love The Shaggs! They perfectly epitomize everything that I knew about music before I knew anything about music. Listening to that album is like taking a PhD course in cultural anthropology. Fabulous stuff if for no other reason than it is easily one of the most SINCERE efforts ever committed to vinyl.

It came completely uncut on KISSOLOGY and it has commentary with the original people. I have to say I'm a pretty big KISS fan, but it is comically horrible. The pure CHEESINESS is almost too much to bear!!! I hate during that part you mentioned when the girl is looking at the Talismans and says "Pretty mystical" as if it actually carries some aura of mystery.....

The worst album I have personally ever listened to is the legendary 'Fieldy's Dreams'. I think it was sometime in the late 90s, Fieldy decides to live out his Hip-Hop fantasies and puts out this interesting platter.
I bought this album on Ebay for 1p, the seller sent two brand new sealed copies and a radio promo disc. Says it all.

For the record, I love 'Elder', it's probably my favourite Kiss album. There are a few of us out there!
And production aside, I think St.Anger does contain some good songs. I find it gets better towards the end, even the lunatic snare calms down a little. But 'Invisible Kid' takes the award for worst Metallica song ever.

I am a huge Who fan, but their last studio album, Endless Wire is absolutely the worst thing they have done... EVER!
I was embarassed for the band.
I know that this is going to rankle some folks, but In Rainbows by Radiohead, just plain sucked... IMHO! I tried to like it, I listened to it numerous times and very high volume, to get a true appreciation of the work, only to find myself dry heaving by the end of it! What the **** is all the noise? Helow, could I get a chorus... anyone!

I love that movie!! It's just so bad, I got it on ebay years ago (vhs) and still have to watch it from time to time. Too many great lines to list ( such as: "He created Kiss to destroy Kiss"). Put that together with Road House & Gymkata and you got yourself a Saturday night stew!

Metal Machine Music - Lou Reed
A double album, 4 sides of feedback, with a skip built into side 4 that would repeat the last few seconds endlessly.

+1. Sad part is, when I was a kid with no money and was recording everything I could off the radio, some college station played it, the whole thing. I stayed up for hours to tend the cassette machine, hoping desperately that something good would happen at any moment. Still angry with Lou for that.

No, just kidding. The worst album for me would be "Philosophy of the World" by The Shaggs. I have listened to bits & pieces of the Lou Reed feedback album and at least you get used to it after a while and tune it out. That's not possible with The Shaggs, alas.

I love Philosophy of the World! Sure, it doesn't hold to standard pop writing or any sort of Western ideas of music theory, but it sounds exactly how they wanted it to sound, and they managed to record it and release it. That's a lot better than we can do, for me, it's the ultimate musical expression, pure creation without anyone telling you how you have to do it.
