Alembic necks

I went to the Alembic factory yesterday and found out that the Stanley Clarke is definitely the narrowest neck, possibly too narrow for me. The string spacing would take some time to get use to but having said that it plays beautifully. I also played a short scale Essence and a Brown with a "classic taper". The Brown one was too wide at the nut for me. Something in the range of a precision. They all taper nicely as you move up the neck though. They are much narrower than a fender as you get to the body of the guitar......very comfortable. As one person said the Essence is around 2.5" at the 24th fret. The Stanley's are around 2.1". The essence felt the best to me also because of the balance. The Stanley's are neck heavy and the way it hangs I found I was reaching more for the 1st fret than the Essence. If I could justify the money I would have walked out with the Essence. It felt the best all the way around. You can see it at willgunnguitars.com. It's the first one on his "basses" page. For some reason he leaves some of them at the Alembic showroom.
