Hello everyone! I am interested in saving up for an Alembic, however when I go to their site, the Spoiler model is not an option for me to choose from. Does anyone know why???

They will make anything you can dream up. The spoiler may be discontinued, but you can be sure they have all the templates.

    This.

Alembic will make you any model you want. Just be sitting down with a bottle of smelling salts when you read the quote.

The quote is what you might call the MSRP, there are a number of authorized dealers who will help you with the whole process and who may well offer a discount. Yes, Alembics are not cheap. And yes, you do get what you pay for.

Alembic will make any of the old body shapes but do you have a lot of specific criteria for wanting a custom build? If not used Spoilers are usually easy to find and shouldn't command an astronomical price. If you do want to get one built, though, the suggestion to speak with a dealer is a good one. Will Gunn, in Oregon, has been an Alembic player since 1976 and a dealer for many years, he only sells Alembic products. When I spoke with him he was really helpful in navigating the various options. The instruments he orders to sell usually have unique and well thought out features. Bass Central in Florida and The Chicago Music Exchange are also Alembic dealers. Good luck!

The Spoiler has the same base price as the Rogue and you can choose the Spoiler body shape with all models :)

If you've never owned an Alembic, I would definitely recommend buying a used one. The Spoiler is model that pops up regularly and can be had for a reasonable amount of money. Then, if Alembics are your thing, you can pursue a new one, customized to your tastes if need be. I went through 3 used Alembics before I ordered my custom build. I took delivery of it in 2003 and it still is everything I want in an Alembic.

This is why I don't ask them for a quote for a "Greg Lake signature edition 8-string". I can't afford those hospital bills.
