I was remembering that same thread on Alembic Club when I chose not to mention the bolt on. Mica explained why they haven't, but didn't say they would never. On the small body / long scale she was very clear about "never again".

She made that pretty clear indeed
Also no Graphite necked Alembics anymore... :-(

.......If you've never owned an Alembic, I'd suggest going for something less expensive (they are built to last a century) and giving it a try. Used Alembics hold their prices very well, so turning a mistake over or trading your way up into a different model is not difficult. BTW - lots of used Alembics are short scale. Their construction is so precise that their short scales tend not to have some of the sonic problems people often chalk up to short scale.

Are Alembics too expensive? It's up to the buyer. If you want one, it's easy to figure out what it will cost. If that works for you, don't bother discussing with the haters - they couldn't care less what you want.

So true. My first Alembic was a 1983 Spoiler. Paid about $1,100 for it in the mid 90s. Traded that plus a few $ for a 1987 Stanley Clarke Sig. Then found the abused Series I for $475 and a 1979 Series II for $1,750. Between the three small bodied basses, three different electronics setups, I figured out that what I really wanted was a big bodied Series II, but with 5 strings. Sold the Stanley Clarke and the '79 Series II to fund the purchase of the only new Alembic I've ever owned. Eleven years and counting as my primary bass. It's the one on the left. The one in the middle is the 1974 Series I I found for $475 (no longer have) and the one on the right is a 1987 Series I that I bought about 2 days before my custom order arrived. Still have that one. It has it's own story
