I use this exclusively in my rack...Fantastic compressor. I use different settings with it...you will have to experiment with it....Gene.
Could you give me a for instance?
The gate seems to clip the end of the sound off, then repeat it a few times like bum bum bum bum ............snap, and it's gone!

That's the sound of a badly-designed noise gate. Sorry, but it's true. That bum bum bum is the sound of it engaging and disengaging repeatedly at the threshold. I would switch the gate off completely unless you absolutely need it for a signal that's badly noisy or feeding back.
I just picked up a 3630 for review purposes, so I can suggest some settings in a day or two. In the meantime, check the FAQ link in my sig, there are several articles explaining how to pick the right settings.

Thanks loads, I don't really need the gate although de noising is nice for my tired ears.

It might be worthwhile to note that the 3630 has a reputation for distortion artifacts. Take a look at rec.audio.pro.....

We had some recent discussion of it, so just search on 3630. My intention is to review it, throw it in a box, and when I get some more free time in a month or three, pull it out to perform some mods that apparently improve the noise, headroom, and signal quality, and review the modded version.
