I get it - totally just my opinion. I don't like the boutique-looking basses in general. I should have kept my stupid opinions to myself.

Sounds to me like dude is just looking for input and feedback that's not based in fear, uncertainty, and doubt. He hasn't gotten any yet. Knowing Talkbass, he probably won't.
Squint until the picture online looks really blurry. That's what the bass you get will look like. It may or may not have the same number of strings. The picture you see is not a bass that that person made, it's a picture he found online somewhere.

My dhgate experience was from 4 months ago! Got mine in December.
for me it was a choice of what could be modded if necessary, and for me nothing needed modding. If something goes catastrophically wrong with the build you can always put new parts on it if it’s a bolt on. I would advise not to get a neck through or something very complex as that’s going to incur a lot of risk

Check out Allen Eden. I got this $200 kit a couple of weeks ago and it sounds amazing! I had a gig this past weekend and everyone thought it was a $1500 to $2000 bass. The tuners are junk, but I replaced them with All Parts brand and I am good to go. By far the best $200 I've ever spent!

I am happy you gave your opinion. Your opinion provides a framework from which I can consider. I do hope that someone who has actually bought such an item gets in here with his or her opinions as well. That may ever happen. It could be that peer pressure will prevent some from admitting they bought such an instrument. That would be a shame.
I’ve seen some videos of especially Fodera type basses where the electronics are wired all weird, looks to be the same control layout minus a few switches. I honestly would buy one just to spruce it up and wire it up the right way. They look cool and I see more and more videos on YouTube showing that the bass itself isn’t hot trash it just has garbage execution with wiring and little things in the fit and finish, like drips in the clear coat, tuners being actually bad.
I think these things are all about managing expectations. Not expecting a real deal hand crafted bass. It’s a Squier Affinity that slipped through QC with quite a few things that shouldn’t have made the cut.
Could be a fun project bass, with a little elbow grease you could make it into a pretty cool bass

A friend of mine just received a Ric style bass and the quality of the product is amazing. You're paying $399 and waiting six weeks for something you shouldn't expect miracles from, but he is very happy. The fit and finish were excellent.
Contextually speaking, the fear and mistrust is not unfounded. People are really just trying to help him steer clear of something he's almost certainly going to be unhappy with. There are no good experiences to list because nobody has had one. I've heard a dozen horror stories, and not much good.
Honestly, dude. Don't hate me for this. It's because those who frequent TB are smarter than thinking that AliExpress and DHGate and the like are viable options. You probably won't see it. We've all seen the threads and the WOAHs and passed on it upon closer inspection. Again. Not just trying to be a jerk. This is my understanding.
And there it is, your buddy got a nice one, and the one I saw was a complete POS, undoubtedly sold for the same or similar price on Aliexpress. There are multiple factories cranking out Ric (and lots of other) counterfeits using the same CNC files. The middle-men vendors never actually even SEE the basses they sell, they just arrange for shipment from the factory and skim a little profit off the top. What you actually get depends on the QC at the factory that made it, could be nice, could be a POS. It's gambling in it's purest form, but if you have the money to gamble, spin the wheel!
