Mike Starr recorded all the parts. The only song they had finished was Would? when they approached my friend for help. Then my friend wrote the bass lines for all the rest of the songs then showed Mike how to play them. All that my friend requested in return was to put in the liner notes "Thanks to ***********" - and when the album came out and it didn't mention his name at all - he got super pissed & had a falling out with him.

Last summer I visited London Bridge Studios in Seattle and they said they recorded the demos for Dirt there. But the demo version of Would sounded so good that they decided to keep it for the album. So your story kinda makes sense.

Very cool. I lived in Seattle for 12 yrs and never got to go to LB. That would be a cool experience. I should mention that my "friend" wasn't just like a regular friend that one would have. He's a fair amount older then me, was in an internationally known band, business owner & more. I don't want to make the impression that he was a cubicle buddy from work that'd I'd go to bars with and/or go snowboarding with.

Went back to London Bridge Studio last weekend and asked about the Would bass tone. Asked Jonathan, one of the owners, who was just an intern at the time, IIRC, and as he reminded, it was just two tracks, one direct through the board and one through an SVT. According to him there was no acoustic bass guitar added.
