All maple basses?

Okay, I'll join the maple fun!

Here is my solid quilted maple Guild Pilot:

I had a Hamer Chaparral 8 string that was all maple, very nice bass. The maple made the octave strings really sing, but it had plenty of low end also.

Yeah, that's what I play. Small body keeps it light, and it is a *very* bright, modern sounding bass. So much so that it doesn't really sound passive. Great slap tones ... but the bottom's there too.

Maple? Good stuff.

I played that bass at the Birdsong shop. It sounded INCREDIBLE!!!! They're building me a custom 5 that I'll be stringing high (picilo'ish). Maple for me indeed. If it ends up being too bright, I can always go with some pickups that are a little more mellow. We are considering having an active preamp installed for mine. That'll give me all of the up-front tone control I need.

Nuttin' but maple under the black paint on this one. It has split coil pups with a two mode active preamp, that can also be run in passive with a tone. It can get a number of great tones, all very well defined and powerful. The bass just has a really great full sound that never lacks definition, attack or sustain. In fact, even as old as it is it still sustains better than any of my other basses. Weighs a truck ton but it's worth every pound. I wouldn't trade this bass for anything.

My Warwick Corvette Proline has an all flamed maple body. Great tone. Bright, snappy highs. A really nice tight low end. Great mids without being to honky or nasal. Cuts through the mix perfectly. Great slap tone.

What's really interesting, though, is the Ken Smith I bought and then sent back last week (all maple except the pau ferro board) wasn't like this at all. Mids were weak and the lows were very boomy. Must of been the electronics difference.

Well, differences in electronics (including pickups and pickup placement) are primarily responsible for differences in tone between basses. So, I say you are correct!
