All These Religion Threads...

Really... What's the point in them?

We are all people who have a love for the same thing...

The only reason why ANY of you are here is to talk to like minded people about the BASS and all the things that go with it.

This site is just gonna end in another war if them threads carry on, you mark my words!

If you wanna talk about religion and where you and your bass come into it, do it on your OWN RELIGION'S forums!

This is a public place. A public place is NOT the place for religion, religions have there own private places.

Now i know for a fact someone is going to mention they have there own threads and i don't need to read them, i have to read the titles, and a Christians thread only? doesn't that seem a bit wrong to you?

Thats just like saying, The Black mans only thread, or White man's only....

What's sooo different and "better" about you that i, or anyone else for that matter, can't join in?

We are all into and like the same thing at the end of the day. And it's not bloody god!

Sorry to the religious folks on here...but I agree with this.

I might care about the pickups in your Jazz bass and what you think the sound like...To me my inner geek/nerd thinks that is cool.

However I don't care if you worship head of lettuce, Satan or Papa smurf.

What better place to talk about it than public? I don't see what something is off limits simply because it has to deal with religion. Throw it in the lobby or off-topic, but just pretending like these differences don't exist doesn't do anyone any good. As long as discussions stay on the topic and hand and things don't get to a personal level I see no problem with having a discussion on well... just about anything.

Cheer's, glad the first comments are on my side, i don't mean to sound bad to em like, a lot of them are good people.

Just a time and place for there thing, and it aint ever on here...

AND, Why should it get shut down, This thread is for bassist And this in the bassist bit.... also, thought you americans was all for freedom of speech?

Why stop at just religion? Why not ban all Fodera Club threads or MTD club threads since most people cannot afford them? Let's only have threads talking about being a bass player. But wait, what if you play 5 strings, or even 6? What if you don't play pop music, but are a jazz guy?

The problem (while I understand your point), is where do you stop? If you are a not a religious person (or aethist) for that matter, stay away from those threads. If you go to the library and you don't want to look at a religous book, stay away from that section. That is a public place. But they have everything from racist issues, to religion, to sexuality. Where do we stop there? Most of us pay money to post here and I think as long as it stays respectful, we all have the right to post (and read what ever posts we want).

Sorry to disagree with you on this, but those are my opinions.

I hope you find the answer you are looking for from your thread.

Peace,
Chris

I guess some people are pretty thin-skinned, I don't go around looking to be offended... According to some statistics over 80% of the entire population of the USA identfy themselves as christians.
I don't have ANY issues with an Athiest only thread, or a Hebrew only thread.. I simply won't go in looking to be offended.
While I don't expect basstalk to be the catalyst to anyones eternal salvation, I would think that consideration is a 2 way street.

I will say this.... if "off-topic" didn't exist then I could understand better how this site is bass ONLY.

Since off-topic exists and EVERY other topic in the world can practically be discussed (keeping it PG rated) then I don't understand why religion or politics can't be discussed as well.

see, part of the problem is that the nature of this particular religion suggests that the followers bring it to the rest of the world....it's is part of the mission, so they never see the problem. In fact, they are doing a duty, a job if you will.

the police have the same sentiment..

This is exactly the problem with the FCC in the USA. The question comes in "where do you stop?"

I hereby would like to announce the creation of BASS-CHURCH. You can wire 10% of your income to my Luxembourg bank account to become enlightened. Let's get this started quick so I can get a Benz and a Villa quickly before my 2008 income tax is due.. off you go, my lemmings... errr.. sheep. ;)

I've been a member of a few huge international photography forums where people would get into heated arguments about which camera is better, film vs. digital, etc., but none of them ever had a thread on religion or had members who segregated themselves based on religious beliefs. In fact, I'm pretty sure politics and religion were not allowed to be discussed.

Hey Chris

I'm not trying to be a jerk.

At least those clubs are "Bass related".

I never heard of bass or any other intrument that has caused wars, like Religion has.

If there was an ignore feature for those threads believe me I would use it.

essentially music itself is pretty much the same-chords and patterns vary, but other than that, it is the same. with that being said, I also don't see a need for "christian" threads or "non-christian", "athiest", or any other religion threads, because isn't it supposed to be about music? who cares if you go to church or not? It's the music that matters, not who you "serve". So let's talk about bass/music. Forget religion-it does not have a bearing on a musician's skills.
