I watched "The Genius of Ringo" earlier today. He was a minimalist. Like Jaco only needed four strings, he only needed four drums, but what he played served the song. McCartney's part is so cool in isolation.

Technical question/observation. How can the sound so good singing so far away from the microphones.
Especially at 4:29 into it?

I know that the bands preformed live, there was no lip syncing. Strong voices and they knew how to sing professionally since they were kids.

Professional singers in a well controlled studio with a small, well behaved live audience being recorded by very professional sound (and video) technicians.
