Wow. It was 57 years ago today when we first saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show.

I was 10 at the time and can't believe it was that long ago. Think I'm going to watch the DVD of the first performance tonight.

I may have already mentioned this in this post, but what I'll never forget was the following day at school. I was in 5th grade and our class, another 5th grade class and 2, sixth grade classes were temporarily having classes at one of our cities junior high schools awaiting completion of a new elementary school. So we're talking a wide range of ages. On Monday the 10th when I got there that place was absolutely buzzing! All the kids were running around, laughing and screaming in the hallways before classes started. Even the teachers were grinning ear to ear. I can still picture the scene and the excitement in the hallway as if it just happened. What a time! Really miss those days. More now than ever. Wonder if sirs Paul and Ringo are thinking back on it today?

Yep, watched the first performance from the Ed Sullivan DVD last night. Still remember the whole family watching the original broadcast. (Miss you, dad). I'll tell ya, that show was vaudeville, no doubt about it! Musical acts, comedians, novelty acts, magicians, Broadway...that show had it all. It was something to see no more than two commercials at a time. (Imagine that now?). I remember being struck by black and white TV in general back then. Kind of amazed at it because it seemed like it was all from another world and some other place to my young mind at the time.

Looks like they were ducking from being pelted with flying "jelly babies" when they first walked onstage, too! Ah, the rigors of early touring.

The band wore suits, people in the audience were also dressed up. The girls, they wanted to look pretty, the guys wanted to look spiffy for a night out.

I noticed that Paul and George are using the basic straps that came with their Hofner and Rickenbacker instruments. John had a fancy VOX python strap. Similar ones are still available.
