I've got a strings today.
With original strings, action was very, very low at the edge of buzz.
I decided to go with a bit of "muddy" sound with GHS Pressurewounds.
Action with GHS is a bit higher and the neck needed about 1/2 turn to be loosen, because of less tension. If you don't want to change original strings, that might work for you. I wanted more vintage sound.
I talked to my buddy, guitar builder back in Europe. He advised pulling out bushings and gluing them back with a bit of "tite bond 50" glue (lower bushing has a ground wire, don't let the glue gets on it. Dry it at least 24 hours. Little humidity in the glue will expand the wood and hold much tighter the bushings.
Also, Hipshot does not sit completely on those bushings (don't know why). I will try to measure much closer and fill the gap with either plastic or metal washers. It does not sit on front bushing either. So, that's where i am going to measure the distance.
After installing a new strings, sustain is still phenomenal, it deepens a bit the overall sound, no more finger-noise. But, with these strings, this guitar is completely different animal and I am very, very happy with accomplishment.
