Hi,

Having lived 2 blocks from the shop, I can attest to the lack of space and outragious rents but NYC is NYC, ya know. It's hard for many people who are from outside the city to understand what it means to be able to say "Made In NYC" unless they have also lived here and if they were born and raised here like me, they wouldn't have it any other way!

It's also important to remember that NYC means th FIVE boroughs, not just Manhattan. I think plenty of space can be had in any of the other 4 for considerably less $$$

BTW: Queens isn't perfect but it's a lot nicer than many other places I've been to. Has the poster who said it was just a smelly tunnel ever been there?

His store/shop is in an odd area for such, its mostly retail and restaurants. much of it catering to the theater crowds. Much new residential construction. I was taken aback that a luthier would be in the ground floor of a retail building.

But after getting to know it, there is one place for him to go..

Well, I'm not from NYC, so 'Made in NYC' doesn't really mean anything to me. If half of the company's repeat customers are New Yorkers who feel that it's the centre of the universe, then it would be a sound business decision to stay somewhere in the five boroughs. But if most of the customers are people who live all over the place and would like to see the rent difference go into wood or something concrete, then I'd say shipping out to Vermont or Texas or someplace would be an excellent choice.

and have you guys ever seen the shop? its smaller than most bodega's i've bought potato chips from. i remember when the showroom was at least 10 paces. now its turn around, and the front counter is in your lap.
