almost hit a deer

yeah, the insurance bit is like that here too, but only if your statement says the deer hit you, so you kind of have to be thinking of what your going to say. and, also if you "get hit" by a deer, my insurance covers the costs. but still, front end bits for a thunderbird arent easy to come by.

I did hit a deer on the way back from rehearsal two months ago.

I did $3,700 worth of damage to my car (2004 Infiniti I 35), but fortunately for me, the deer bounced away from the car and I was not hurt. I pulled over to the side of the road, assessed the damage (turned out my car was not drivable), and dialed 911. My car got towed, the officer dropped me and my equipment off at a WaWa a few miles down the road, and my lovely wife picked me up about an hour later.

My insurance company was great. They picked up all of the towing, my car rental for the next month, and covered the repairs under my comprehensive, which meant that I was out of pocket for only $200.00. Had I not called the police and filed an official police report, I would have had to fight to get covered.

I have the car back, and all is well. Bambi is eating out of someone's garden in deer heaven, and I'm still here!

I've never hit a deer, but I once grazed a reindeer. It was just near christmas too and two young cousins were in the back. Luckily they were asleep and even more luckily the reindeer got a move on and just barely grazed the car. The reindeer fell down, got up and ran away, which was nice. It would've sucked to explain to the two kids why Rudolph is splattered all over the front end of the car..
But they're pretty hard to avoid when the snow has been plowed on the sides of the roads. No room to maneuver and when the reindeer jump over the pile they can end up just in front of the car so there's no time to evade. Luckily they're not that big.

Moose on the otherhand.. They have such long legs that if you hit them, the front end just hits the legs and the remaining 1000 pounds of moose comes straight through the windshield. A lot of people end up their lives that way every year over here.

Our drummer here in Pennsylvania hit three deer last month! After
practice, he was driving his van home at 55 MPH and "Thump!"
He never saw it but he hit a deer. The airbag exploded in his face
and he was sticking his head out the window trying to drive like
Ace Ventura while slowing down and then, "Thump, Thump!"
He hit two more -- just like that. There must have been a herd crossing
the road.

Meanwhile, a car is coming the other way flashing its headlights to warn
him that there are more deer up the road.

I almost did a couple months ago, scared the mess out of me. I was driving on the way to the club, looked away for a sec, and back at the road in a nick of time. A baby deer ran in front of me and lucky was quick enough that I didn't hit it. But my heart was racing like crazy!
