It's a very melodic bass, even unplugged. It's a medium scale bass, and the tail of the body is a bit shorter that your run of the mill J or P bass. You can get great J bass tones, or truly gnarly growley P bass tones...or just about everything in between. As a batter of fact, it's almost too many variations. You have to really learn the control layout and how to make minute changes/corrections.

I can play really smooth warm jazz, or make two small adjustments and have an amazing slappety pop bass. Plus is light and very comfortable to play on long gigs. Esp after slinging one of my solid body long scales bases around my neck for a three hour gig.

Here's my DEAN copy of JE's Alembic from back in the day. Thus is the USA custom shop version that was kinda rare. Plays purdy good, but is def NOT an Alembic.


Here's one of my Alembics with a crazy Macassar top and preamp setup. It's an amazing bass but very heavy (which I actually kinda like), but also very expensive and rare, so it stays home most of the time.

There's a guy in Arkansas that makes fiddles,
mandolins, harps and so on. He never played
bass, but decided he wanted to. So he built
this bass not really knowing much about
electric bass.

That tends to make it unusual. But, it is hard
to translate all that to visual.

But, here's a try,

After he sold me this bass, the guy decided he
wanted to play bass fiddle, so he built a DB bass,
