Alternative to Craigslist in S.E. Wisconsin?

I won't bore you with all the reasons why I left my old band. My story is not unique to the many I've read here in band-management.

I'm not having a lot of luck with Craigslist finding opportunities hooking up with individuals or groups in my area. I did get two solid auditions, though. One did not produce an offer. The other I'm not totally comfortable with so on that one, I'm in the "I'll think about it", stage. I've also received some pretty bizarre replies.

Sadly I don't really know of any at the moment. I asked a similar question recently in the Wisconsin bassists thread on this forum and know one really had any alternatives.

Your ad looks fine. Maybe put up postings in local guitar shops, etc?

Uncle Bob's has a great board. Try Guitar Center in Brookfield or Casio Music. Go old school. Head out to the music stores and see if someone has posted a bass player wanted. The other thing is to hit some of the open mic jam nights. There are plenty in our area. Talk to guitarists and drummers. Not many bassists go to them. Networking face to face is the best thing to do.

I've been using Bandmix for a few weeks now to locate a vocalist for my band, seems much better than using CL IMO.

Cascio's, Bob's and Cream City are pretty reliable. So too is getting your musician contacts to mention you to their contacts. This does tend to result in a few more unsuitable suggestions, but at least you'll know enough of the people involved to get some level of intell on who's interested in talking to you. In the MKE area Bandmix isn't bad. I've even found a few real ones on Milwaukee Rocks (not for the faint of heart). I don't remember what your musical interests are, but it's my impression we probably would not be competing. So if you are inclined, PM me a thumbnail about what you are looking for. I may be able to pass the info through people I know and might help (I think this is called "networking", isn't it?). At any rate, I'm in Greenfield, too if you want to drop me a line.

Milwaukee Rocks is good, but it's almost too big, and kind of disorganized, IMHO.

It's the same as CL but in my area it gets a little better grade of musician/band ads...

I don't know what your region is like, and my area stopped doing this a few years ago, but if you go into music stores the usually have a book of people looking to jam, or looking for players.

I used to post ads and respond to ads in those back in the day, mind you this was probably close to ten years ago before the internet was all the rage. The only guitar shop left in town is the Canadian equivalent of guitar center, they have no book and never did.

Also, bass guitar teachers sometimes get asked by people looking for a bass player.

I honestly have met some great fellow musicians/bandmates just by going out to local gigs and schmoozing. Thats actually how I met several guys in my current band. Never had any luck on Craigslist or other sites.

I've had luck with Craigslist but I browsed it for months before i found what iwas looking for. Usually the open Mic thing is big help because even if you don't join up with anyone there they might know someone who knows someone.
