Alto Music, GearTree trustworthy?

The basses I am looking for are sold out on Sweetwater, GC, AMS, etc., but they are available on Amazon through Alto Music and GearTree.

Has anyone had any dealings with either of these companies? Are they GTG to order from?

Alto was probably the main local music shop during my life in the 1990s. Assuming the company is the same and hasn't devolved into a completely different entity still using the name, they should be fine.

I've dealt with both and they are great. Sweetwater is always my first go too. They will get you one though. Unless it's discontinued.

If they are selling on Amazon, don't you have the protection of Amazon on any transaction? Amazon is quick to remove sellers that have a negative impact on Amazon's reputation and will generally see you OK if something goes wrong. That's my experience in the UK anyway.

I think Alto is actually the same old brick-and-mortar company in the Hudson Valley, NY, that my parents rented my first clarinet from way back when (50+ years now). I still have the case downstairs, I bet the sticker's still on it even...

They are the same company. They closed the Rockland County location about a year ago. They are in Brooklyn and Middletown I believe.

Adding to it... I have purchased from Alto and GearTree several times with no issues. I have purchased both direct and via Amazon/Reverb with them. Alto frequently has sales/coupons active which is what caused me to try purchasing direct from them in the first place. I will note that at least some items from Alto drop ship so in stock status may or may not be reliable. I have never had it be incorrect, but I have had items drop ship from them. I know from buying car parts that drop shipping can cause delays or incorrect stock status that are not necessarily the fault of the retailer.

Alto is good, but I've heard a lot about GearTree selling people broken instruments. Check out their google reviews.

I've been inside of ALTO MUSIC's store. Nice big operation and excellent service. Never had a problem with them.
