alvarez dana bass

check this out...i've been emailing dana sutcliffe back and forth and he's offered to build me a brand new custom to the -91 specs...he also thinks he actually has a new old stock bass with custom electronics installed in trans burgundy...he's going to be getting back to me tomorrow...

thanks Dan for the pics! you rock! i can't believe you actually had those brochures lying around :D

I also remember those- they were very cool, inexpensive basses. I wanted one, but when I played it, it was uncomfortable for me- I play way high, and the neck is angled in such a way that it caused me pain in my left wrist...see my avatar.

o O...yeah, i can see where that would be an awkward playing position for you...on the other hand...looking at your avatar makes _my_ wrist hurt :D i'm hoping this guy has one of his older basses on hand...it would be really cool to have a new custom built to those specs, though...that's just a nuts looking bass...you know, i was thinking about it, and the newer dana bass, circa 93-95, looks a lot like the roscoe lg series...cool

Even though it looks like my wrists are all bent up, my left hand wrist is usually flat- I was doing a slide when that pic was taken. My right wrist does have a relatively sharp angle to it a lot of the time, but believe it or not, it doesn't ever hurt! And I've had doctors in the audience look at my wrists on break, they were unable to find anything wrong with my range of motion, or any sign of tendon inflammation. I think part of the reason my wrists are OK is the fact that I stretch often, and I slap frequently...my right arm position varies a lot, but my thumb is always parallel to the strings. My first finger always points out when I slap, too, kinda like I have a pistol in my hand. I pop with my middle finger mostly, which is folded in towards my palm, with my ring finger and pinkie. Weird, but it works. It's really relaxed as well. :D

yeah, no kiddin' right? who woulda thought i would only have to hold out for a couple weeks to get one in cherry condition...nice...should be here in a week or so :D i'm stoked...this bass probably rocks the whole money spent / stoke factor category in my short stint in the whole GAS business
