I'm trying to build a "stack" on a "low budget" saw a Fender 2-8 cab in the classifieds here. Could this work or is it just stupid? I have a Hartke 7000 head on it's way to me 350 watts at 4 ohms x 2. I currently own a Genz Benz 115 combo ( could just use it as an 8 ohm 115 cab) & an SWR workingman's 210 (also 8 ohms) Would adding the 2-8's and another 210 (both 8 ohm) just be crazy??? No I won't be buying an "Ambelic" bass anytime soon!!! Looking to "low ball" the whole set-up!! (By necessity not choice!!)
Sure it'll look like crap but how do you think it will sound??? If you think I'm sounding "clueless" your probably right!!!
Asked Magic 8 ball will it sound okay: Said "TRY AGAIN". Asked if it would good: Said "TRY AGAIN". Asked if it would sound bad?: Said "TRY AGAIN". Magic 8 ball busted
I never said I was 'smart" just "good looking"!!! So "dumb idea?" or "just so crazy it might work?" And it even made my head spin when I read what I wrote!! I was just in my own "alcohol induced" semi-******** way trying to figure out how to max out the amp "cheap"!!
You miss understood the humor. No way to know . If it was me I would try it, but I enjoy making the most out of what is on hand .
I don't think I misunderstood you! I thought the same (almost immediately after I hit "enter") I sounded a little "whacked" I was sitting here (with a beverage) looking at my GB amp and 210 cab and started thinking! well that's 4 ohms now I need 4 more to get the full power from the Hartke amp!
Well, adding more speakers usually means more sound. Stop thinking of "getting the most power" out of an amp. Watts don't make sound, speakers do. It takes a big boost in output power to make a difference in sound level IF your speakers can use that power. It is a futile chase. Speakers are much better at dissipating waste heat from the "watts" sent them than making actual sound. That is why adding more speakers works better, less power is used for waste heat.
The amp is 350w x 2 (bi-amped) at 4 ohm 240w at 8 ohm what would be a good speaker set-up for it? I was thinking a 410 4ohm for the highs and a 210 4ohm for the lows? or should it be the other way around?
Other way around! You need speaker displacement for the low end. That would be the 410. Highs are much easier for the human ear to hear so less power and less speaker area is needed.
Two 410 cabs, no point in running two 410 full range cabs in a biamp. Just run both cabs "dual mono" full range.
Makes sense! I just started playing again after a 15yr hiatus I used to use a Hartke 410xl for the highs and a 115 JBL for the lows just cause it made "sense" to me at the time
I'm starting to get that and it's not like I'll ever be playing 10000 seat arenas!! It'll more than likely be a local "firehouse" or small club!!!
Think of it as an opportunity to try things out to experiment. Many here will tell you the only way to go is matching cabs, and the is the easiest and safest way (but also not easy to do on the budget).
